Wikimedia Fan Club, Gombe State University Welcome to a world where knowledge knows no bounds, and information is made accessible to all. Officially recognised by Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN) as a fam club, the Wikimedia Fan Club, Gombe State University is a vibrant community of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as staff members, united by the common goal of contributing to the vast repository of human knowledge through Wikimedia and its associated projects. Nestled within the heart of our university campus, and extending its reach to off-campus students, the Wikimedia Fan Club serves as a hub of learning, collaboration, and creativity. Supported by the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN), we embark on an inspiring journey to empower our members and foster a spirit of exploration and discovery. Our primary mission is to ignite a passion for Wikimedia projects among students and staff alike, breathing life into the world's largest online encyclopedia. By executing impactful projects and delivering comprehensive training programs, we strive to expose our fellow scholars to the power of the Wikimedia movement. We take immense pride in our vision of nurturing a new generation of young and enthusiastic Wikimedians within the walls of Gombe State University. Through our efforts, we seek to shine a spotlight on African scholars and the richness of African local languages, elevating their visibility on the global stage. A key aspect of our mission is to seamlessly integrate Wikimedia into the academic curriculum, making knowledge creation and dissemination an inherent part of the learning experience. By doing so, we aspire to cultivate a culture of lifelong learning and knowledge-sharing among our academic community. Objectives[edit]
Objectives of the Wikimedia Fan Club, Gombe State University:
- Initiate, support, promote, and actively participate in projects led by the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria and the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc.
- Create, organize, and develop activities that advocate for the creation and dissemination of free, responsible open-content resources and reference materials in English, Hausa, and Fulfulbe languages, with a focus on regions where existing communities thrive.
- Foster collaboration, cooperation, networking, and partnerships with other Hubs and Fan Clubs of Wikimedians, as well as institutions, organizations, and individuals, to advance the principles of the free culture movement.
- Facilitate and execute programs that align with the above objectives, aiming to promote Wikimedia projects, knowledge-sharing, and lifelong learning within the Gombe State University community.
