Wikimedia and Libraries User Group/Steering committee elections

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The WLUG Steering Committee

[edit]

The Wikimedia and Libraries User Group (WLUG) is driven by a collaborative spirit and a shared mission to strengthen the relationship between the Wikimedia movement and global library communities. At the heart of this coordination is the WLUG Steering Committee, a volunteer body that guides the group's strategic direction, facilitates communication and outreach, and supports members in developing Wikimedia-related library initiatives worldwide.

The Steering Committee elections ensure that WLUG remains transparent, inclusive, and responsive to its diverse membership. They allow active members to step into leadership roles, contribute their perspectives, and help shape the future of library engagement within the Wikimedia ecosystem.

All user group members are encouraged to participate, whether by nominating themselves or others, asking questions of the candidates, or voting. Ideal candidates are Wikimedians and/or library professionals committed to openness, equity, collaboration, and free knowledge.

By participating in the elections, members help ensure that WLUG remains a dynamic, community-driven space that reflects the needs and voices of its global community.

Clarifications

[edit]

Nominations have closed. Members of the Wikimedia & Libraries User Group who joined the election process by June 6, 2025 are eligible voters.

Though the main language for meetings has been English, the wish is to include non-English speakers in the new Steering Committee.

Every eligible voter will be able to vote for three candidates.

Please consider all candidates representing global and cultural diversity. An election of the top nine individuals will each join the Steering Committee for 2-year terms starting July 1, 2025. Nominees who are not elected will have the opportunity to join future committee work.

The first meeting of the new Steering Committee will be in July 2025 with designation of officers and committee needs at that time.

We are in the process of securing a secure poll from the Foundation. Voting will begin as soon as we receive the secure poll. We apologize for the delay and will adjust the timeline accordingly. Windblown29 (talk) 13:50, 6 June 2025 (UTC) We have opened the voting period as of June 24 --Windblown29 (talk) 23:03, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
