Wikimedians of Los Angeles/2024
This is the annual report for Wikimedians of Los Angeles (WikiLA), covering the time period from July 2023 to June 2024. Our user group promotes and coordinates the use of Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in and around the Greater Los Angeles area.
During this year we have been able to conduct the following activities:
- November 9-12, 2023: WikiConference North America, conducted in Toronto
- December 30, 2023: WikiLA meetup to improve the article on Hancock Park, held at the West Hollywood Public Library.
- February 17, 2024: West Hollywood Edit-a-thon and Belated Wikipedia Party, held at the West Hollywood Public Library
- March 23, 2024: Angel City FC Women's Soccer Edit-a-Thon, held at the Los Angeles Central Library in cooperation with Angel City FC
- April 28, 2024: WikiLA Spring 2024 Meetup, held at Citizen Public Market in Culver City
- June 8, 2024: Los Angeles Wiknic, held at Pan Pacific Park in Los Angeles
After a couple years of being unable to properly plan and execute activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are glad that we are once again able to plan a series of events and activities to help drum up WikiLA's presence in Greater Los Angeles, and also to encourage Wikipedians in the region to get together and to work together. We are excited to continue building up on our activities this year in the upcoming 2024-2025 fiscal year. These include:
- An ocean-themed edit-a-thon. We are working on securing library partners to host this event, mostly targeting libraries in the South Bay.
- A series of WikiLA Salons where we get to connect Wikipedians with domain experts who can share their knowledge and expertise, which can then be used to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to those domains.
