Organization Structure
[edit]The Steering Committee (StC) is the guiding and supervisory body of WAMUG, equivalent to the board of directors or supervisory board of an organization. 1 seat reserved for Chairperson of the "Asia-Pacific Open Knowledge Association", the association registered for securing the base of WAMUG.
The Wikipedia Asian Month User Group is built on a collaborative structure that bridges governance, strategy, and grassroots engagement. From legal oversight by the Taiwan NGO Board to strategic direction by the Steering Committee, and community outreach led by Ambassadors and Organizers, each role ensures the campaign remains inclusive, sustainable, and impactful across Asia and beyond.
Purpose of Steering Committee
[edit]We aim to further strengthen Wikipedia Asian Month as a global platform for cultural exchange and knowledge sharing, driving the creation of articles related to Asia and promoting greater understanding and involvement of Asia’s diverse cultures within the global Wikimedia Movement.
Responsibilities of Steering Committee
[edit]Taiwan NGO Board - Legal and Governance Oversight
- Ensure compliance with Taiwan NGO regulations
- Approve major strategic decisions and financial plans
- Oversee risk management and legal obligations
- Appoint Executive Director
Regional Representatives - Strategic Leadership & Global Coordination
- Develop long-term goals and policies for the campaign
- Represent diverse regional and linguistic communities in Asia
- Supervise annual planning and evaluation of Wikipedia Asian Month
- Approve the small grant for offline events
Special Advisor - Expert Guidance and Advocacy
- Provide counsel on technology, governance, outreach, partnerships, and sustainability
- Offer insight on Wikimedia movement trends and best practices
Executive Director - Operational Management & Leadership
- Manage day-to-day operations and the WAM global campaign
- Execute plans approved by the Board and Steering Committee
- Maintain relationships with partners
- Apply for Wikimedia Foundation and other relevant grants
- Submit grant report
- Serve as spokesperson for the User Group
