Wikipedia Collections

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Wikipedia Collections is a Wikimedia Nederland project where an internet kiosk was developed for displaying Wikipedia articles in museums.

Summary[edit]

Most chapter-related GLAM activities have been focused on getting content on Wikimedia projects: wouldn’t it be nice to give something back? Museums struggle with adding rich, multilingual context about their works using new media. Most background information is still provided by text signs. Why can’t we use Wikimedia content to enrich and inform the visitor? Wikipedia Collections is a combination of a physical internet kiosk stand, combined with an open source web application that offers a curated selection of Wikimedia for museum visitors.

The kiosk is visible in two Dutch museums until the end of 2015: the Catharijneconvent in Utrecht and the Textielmuseum in Tilburg.

Source code of this application can be found at Wikimedia Nederland's Github repository.
