Yoruba Wikimedia Fan Club

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The Yoruba Wikimedian Fan Club is a small subset of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group made up of university students who have registered with the school's authority to conduct Yoruba Wikimedia-related activities. An advisor who reports back to the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group closely monitors their activities.

Objectives[edit]

The Yoruba Wikimedian Fan Club's primary goals include:

  1. Recruiting and developing a subset community of Yoruba Wikipedia volunteers inside the organization,

2. Raising university students' awareness of Yoruba Wikimedia projects.

3. Developing the members' abilities to use the Yoruba Wikipedia for educational reasons and to participate in school-based Yoruba Wikimedia initiatives.

Activities[edit]

The Yoruba Wikimedian Fan Club will have to priortise these activities:

1. Article writing sessions- Members of the group can select a convenient time and date when everyone in the club can converge in a place for at least 2-3 hours, select article topics that will attract and interest all, and share them among the club members. Club Members can edit the same article simultaneously while seated in a common space where their gadgets can have better internet access needed for editing.

2. Photo-thons - Club members can take part in the Wikimdian annual photography contest, where they can enjoy taking pictures of famous landmarks, structures, amusement parks, etc., while walking around the city; going to a science, art, or history museum to snap photos of various artifacts; or going to cultural exhibitions, festivals, or other dance performances; etc. They can then upload all of these photos to Wikimedia Commons and use them in various Wikipedia articles.

3. Club meetups - The Fan Club members can plan a weekly or monthly get-togethers so that members can socialize, have fun, and get to know one another better. This may occur as they dress for meetings, bring other swag to the meetings, or put on their Wikipedia group t-shirts, badges, or sweatshirts.
