Fundraiser 2011[edit]

I have forwarded your comments to J Soby, my fellow co-ordinator for Swahili. Thank you for editing the banners and LPs. There are now some new banners ready for proofreading, if you have the time. You say that the text of the letter is from last year. So it isn't this, or this? I ask because I can't see the fundraiser directly myself as it appears in Tanzania (sigh!). Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Wiki of functions and Abstract Wikipedia[edit]

Hi so far I have not really understood what the project is about. Is there any example which can be given in clear language? Hi. Sorry I didn't see your replies here until now. I've become used to people using the {{ping}} template, especially since my watchlist grew too large many years ago!

In simplified terms, the first stage of the plan is to make "functions" more widely accessible and reliable. E.g. instead of the current situation where we have ~150 slightly different versions of [Module:Convert] (d:Q14033926) that are written and maintained at each wiki separately, we'll have 1 multilingual version of that function that any wiki can use (and beyond, via the API). Additionally, each function will be able to be written in a variety of programming-languages, instead of just in Lua. So if someone only knows Swahili and C++, they'll be able to contribute here and benefit everyone, or if they know two human-languages they'll be able to localize the functions and make them more available to their local communities. -- I found the mockup image at Abstract Wikipedia/Early mockups#Main page to be very helpful for understanding some aspects of it. -- Someone described it as "like a programmable calculator but for all knowledge".

For the second stage, the Abstract Wikipedia part, I sometimes think about it as being the next-stage of evolution from (1) mw:Extension:ArticlePlaceholder (which simply displays the data from Wikidata if a local article doesn't exist for that topic, e.g. ht:Special:AboutTopic/Q14384), and (2) from Reasonator (which does the same, plus uses the AutoDesc tool to add a few basic translatable sentence-frameworks for things like "[he/she] was born on [date], in [location], to [parent's names]", e.g. AutoDesc for Julius Ceasar or for Marie Curie). -- We aim to do those sentence-frameworks for thousands of sentences, and to collect specific sentence-frameworks together for each topic, which will thus enable any Wikipedia that wants it to have a placeholder article giving at least some information about any given topic, written correctly in the local language.

I hope that explanation helps a little bit. It almost certainly gives you more questions! Many of the answers would likely be "we're not sure yet" or "it will be up to the community".

Please could you tell me how you would describe the project to someone else, based on what you've understood so far? We're always looking for better phrases and keywords to use, in order to help everyone (with any background) to understand the different aspects, whilst also trying to avoid misunderstandings or too much verbosity. Possible topics include Community Board seats, Interim Global Council, Strategy prioritization follow-up events, Branding, Universal Code of Conduct, Grant strategy, and WMF CEO search. That is a lot of things, which are most important to cover in our upcoming SWAN meeting?

Hello, you're looking at Admin activity review. It seems like sw.wiki already has a standing policy on how to remove admins. If you wish to propose to automate this process and let the annual AAR to include sw.wiki, start a vote at your local village pump (or equivalent high traffic page) to override this consensus. After about a month and there is no strong objection, add a request to SN (linking to the local vote page) to inform stewards to include sw.wiki in the next round of AAR. You can request for removal of admin/bureaucrat permissions of users at SRP after a successful local de-sysop/de-crat discussion has been raised (typically a week of discussion without any oppose votes would be enough) and the affected user has been notified on their talk page (email as well, if enabled). For your second question and if you're asking who removes the permission(s), a steward does.
