Wikipedia for Peace at Europride 2019
Vienna, 11-16 June 2019

About the project

Europride is an event that promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans (LGBT) and other queer issues on an international level through parades, festivals and other cultural activities. It was founded in 1992 and has since then been taking place in different cities across Europe annually. From 11th to 16th of June 2019, we will gather for a multi-day edit-a-thon in Vienna to participate as Wikimedians in this year's Europride parade and to add content on LGBT+ issues to Wikimedia projects. We will be an international group of 15 participants (some of us experienced Wikimedians, others newcomers) and we will edit in all languages that we speak.

Already in 2017 and in 2018 we organized such events. This year's event is organized by Wikimedia Austria in cooperation with the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group; the event is part of the Wikipedia for Peace movement that wants to strengthen peace and social justice on Wikimedia projects.

Join the event

Are you free during the dates of the event and interested in LGBT+ topics, 18 years or older and want to edit related content on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and other open-knowledge projects? Perfect! Apply now! There is no application deadline, we will accept a maximum of 15 motivated participants as applications come in. Once your application is accepted, we will send you more information about the project (meeting point, what to bring, etc.). We will also make sure to arrange your travels and, if necessary, visa as soon as possible.

If you cannot join the event physically, feel free to support the project by editing articles in our article list - and don't forget to add your edits to the results page.

Costs

Accommodation, food, local transport and participation in pride-related events are covered by Wikimedia Austria. We will have limited possibility to support the travels of experienced Wikimedians with our budget as well. If there is a Wikimedia chapter in your country, we could also ask your chapter to fund your travels to and from Vienna. Otherwise you will have to pay for your travels to and from Vienna yourself.

Program

The program will be a mix of editing, attending events during the Pride week and socializing. We will start the program on 11th June in the afternoon and end on 16th June in the morning. We will stay at a hostel (Jugendherberge Brigittenau, Adalbert-Stifter-Straße 73, 1200 Wien) and also have rooms for editing there. More information coming up soon.

What will we write about?

The focus of the event is to write and edit short and concise articles about basic LGBT+ concepts as well as European and Austrian LGBT+ history and biographies. We will create a list of articles before the event.
