Climate Champions Edit-a-thon was such an awesome experience as it was filled with knowledge; we learnt more about the environment. As a Climate Advocate and Actor, I like to see more of this in the view to having a more sustainable environment that’s really habitable. It was really fascinating, I look forward to seeing more of it. Thanks to the sponsors; project lead; and facilitators

The Climate Champions edit-a-thon campaign is a campaign about Africans who have in a way or the other contributed to a better environmental situation in Africa. I learned a lot about African who gave themselves to the protection and safeguarding of the African environment. The experience was an amazing one, we had two physical meetings and all participants were all able to contribute in their own way.

African environment and climate change have not received recognition from both home and abroad several individual have poured out their time and resources into fighting for their land and also the people. The Wikipedia platform gave people the opportunity to learn and to contribute and I, also being a beneficiary to add and improve article and also sensitize others , finally I appreciate the organizers and co-editors.

The just concluded Climate Champions edit-a-thon was amazing, and I can say that it actually opened my mind to a few things I was not aware of i.e,(eco-feminist, environment activist and climate activist). One thing I have learnt is that the more you search about things the more knowledge you acquire. Thank you for initiating this edit-a-thon, hope for more edit-a-thon's to edit.

Goals and Outcomes[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

We were not able to meet our overall goal due to the limited time frame but overall we are happy with the result.

Please use the table below to report on the outcomes achieved, starting with the original targets you shared in your proposal for the microgrant.

Final project metrics
Proposed metrics Anticipated outcome Achieved outcome Explanations
Number of articles created/improved 200 114 On this front we fell short of the target as the time frame between approval and funding was short
Number of participants 40 25 We had a little hitch as students were in preparation for their final exams so that's the reason we couldn't meet the target
Number of events 2 2 Both events were held physically where participants engaged in the edit-a-thon

Learnings[edit]

What did you learn? What are you proud of? What was challenging? From this experience, what would you do differently if you had to do it again?

For me in this project I learnt that timing is paramount. It was a project that participants were eager to contribute on. I am proud of the fact that despite having exams some students were willing to take out time to contribute. What was challenging was getting students to come and if I had another chance I would set the events after exams.

Finances[edit]

How did the initial proposed budget compare to the final costs of the project? Were there any unexpected costs or changes to your initial budget.

On the budget we had to make some changes. Participants were a bit unwilling to leave campus and we had to organize transportation for them and this affected other aspects of the budget but in all we were able to make do.

Use the table below to display your initial request, include the approved line items on your proposal and the proposed cost of these. Insert the real cost of each expected line. Add extra lines for additional expenses that were not anticipated in the proposed budget. If your budget is in local currency, please use the exchange rate on the date (or an average of the dates) that your money was transferred to your account. Historic mid-rates can be found here.

Please reuse your initial request, provide initial budget for each line, indicate actual expense for each line, and finally justify significant differences.
