Reorganizing category structure (proposal)[edit]

Currently, a lot of effort is spent on supporting the structure of multilingual categories, each of which contains only 1-2 pages.

My proposal:

  1. Make Category:Community Wishlist Survey translatable
    • Include Category:Community Wishlist Survey into "Feature requests" and "Editor surveys" (along to "Community Tech")
    • And also include in "Software development", "Wikimedia resources for program coordinators", "Wikimedia resources for contributors", "Wikimedia resources for developers", "Wikimedia resources for affiliate organizers"
  2. Make categories "Community Wishlist Survey YYYY" untranslatable
    • Remove categories "Community Wishlist Survey YYYY" from "Feature requests" and "Editor surveys"
  3. For every translatable pages from "Community Wishlist Survey YYYY" (usually, only "Community Wishlist Survey 2015" and, very rare, "Community Wishlist Survey 2015/Results") adopt the following categorization scheme:
    • base page — included only in the "Community Wishlist Survey YYYY"
    • translations — included in the"Community Wishlist Survey YYYY/Translations", and also in categories
      1. Community Wishlist Survey/<langcode>
      2. YYYY/<langcode>

@Kaganer: Hey! I don't really understand why the category pages need to be translatable, but I've no opposition to your proposal. So long as the category structure doesn't change, go for it. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 16:03, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

2021 ?[edit]

So when does 2021 Wishlist Survey opens? --Zblace (talk) 07:11, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Zblace: The survey is conducted in every October-November. It’s not urgent yet to decide on the exact dates, especially as we don’t know where the ongoing pandemic will go by then. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 12:17, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
fair but would be nice to have a place holder as a generic idea box already now...no?Zblace (talk) 17:12, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Probably it hasn’t been decided on what the scope of the survey is (the 2020 one focused on smaller projects, the 2021 one may or may not be the same)… This survey has its own timeframe, if there was an idea box, it would practically mean it runs all the time. You can open Phabricator tickets for your ideas, write them on your user page or a subpage, take a note on your computer, or even on a real, paper-based sticky note. TL;DR: No. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 20:44, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
