What we offer
During the project we are able to support the museum for free with our work (until the project ends the 30 September 2017). Furthermore, we are able to host the media files online in the highest possible resolution (if the insitution so decide), without any cost for the institution.
The project is supported by a group of strong international partners, such as UNESCO, and we want more institutions to join and take advantage of this network.
Wikimedia Sverige has technical expertise around batch uploads of images from GLAM institutions (i.e. when a large amount of images are uploaded with the help of a specifically developed computer program) and with organizing events around adding suitable material into Wikipedia articles. We have worked with a large number of museums and archives to bring their collections online in an efficient and valuable way — and to find ways for them to engage in crowdsourcing and on working with a massive online community. We can assist the team at the institution ongoingly, every step of the way.
We are not lawyers but we do have an in-depth knowledge about copyright relevant for digitization projects and can help with clarifications and recommendations.
We want to highlight the cooperation on our platforms and will create a dedicated page about the institution and the collections. This page will be linked to from each of the image pages and therefor give the institution high visibility. Furthermore, we will create categories for the institution to make it easy to find the material.
We will also work to highlight the cooperation in external communication, through press releases, on social media channels, on blogs and on email lists. This will be done in cooperation with the communication staff at the institution.
Through our project we could possibly support local GLAM institution with some small funds to digitize photographic collections that are important for the Connected Open Heritage project. (This is experimental and we only have a limited amount of funding available, so we will have to prioritize based on the information provided and will focus on GLAM institutions with limited funding in developing countries.)
What we ask for
We are focusing on collections that show immovable cultural heritage, such as monuments, archaeological sites, and so on. Ideally the media collections show immovable cultural heritage:
- That is at risk of being damaged or that already have been destroyed; and/or
- Is located in one of our listed countries; and/or
- Is located in one of the countries in the Wiki Loves Monuments database; and/or
- That is unique and interesting for researchers and the broad public.
For us to be able to make good use of the material on Wikimedia projects it is important that there is some structured metadata available. More detailed information can be found on this page.
We are especially keen to help if this would be valuable for the local Wikimedia organization (User Group, Chapter or Thematic) and strengthen their long-time efforts; or if the online community of a Wikipedia language version has asked for it.
