Involvement in the Helpdesk
This page is under construction. Please help review and edit this page. |
The Helpdesk wants to bridge the expertise of volunteers and affiliates within the movement, and make sure that we help each other on the way to successful content partnerships.
This page explains how you – as an affiliate or volunteer – can be involved in the work with the helpdesk.
Join a Working Group
[edit]Working Groups will be established, where affiliates and volunteers can take part in the work of the Helpdesk, and help out with – among other things – communication, feedback, uploads, use of content, drafting reports, investigating issues etc. Further information will come soon!
Communication
[edit]The Helpdesk needs help with at least two kinds of communication:
- Spreading the word about the helpdesk
- Spreading the word about the material uploaded
For the first point, the Helpdesk needs support to reach out to volunteers and affiliates in the movement that might need support from the helpdesk, but that do not know about the helpdesk, or that they could benefit from it. Do you know of volunteers with cool projects in areas where there are no Wikimedia affiliates? Do you know of groups that are active in other languages other than English, and that might need help with the requests? The Helpdesk would be in great need of such help.
Of course, the material also needs to be used! Affiliates and volunteers' support in spreading the word about the material is uploaded would be really important.
Giving feedback on requests
[edit]The requests might come with all different stages of completion, when it comes to the potential content. Is the metadata in order? Is the quality high enough? Is the material useful for the communities? The more help the Helpdesk gets with this kind of questions, the more projects the Helpdesk will be able to carry out. The Helpdesk plan to establish working groups that help give feedback along the way, and would greatly appreciate support.
Uploading the content
[edit]If you know how to do batch uploads, the Helpdesk would welcome support with this.
You can be involved in various ways:
- Evaluating and working with ongoing projects, to make sure that they are ready for potential uploads. Open questions and the current status of the projects can be found on "Projects"
- Using the material that the Content Partnerships hub has resulted in, see "Using the material"
- Supporting the movement with advocacy and policy-making, see "below"
Using the content
[edit]All content uploaded is gathered in this category. Let’s work together to run a campaign, organize events or make any kind of project to share the content!

Creating support material
[edit]There is a lot of support material missing, when it comes to helping affiliates and volunteers with content uploads.
Translation
[edit]There are several pages here on the portal that need translation. The more languages they are translated to, the easier it is for communities across the globe to ask for help! Your translation help is very valuable.
