Deoband Community Wikimedia/Activity plans/Half-Yearly Strategic plan for October 2024 - March 2025
This activity plan builds upon our previous six-monthly activity plan. This page outlines a comprehensive list of planned activities for the term spanning from 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025. Please note that this list is dynamic.
Conversations and a Communication Strategy
[edit]We will conduct DCW Conversation Hour throughout the six months, and will work on defining a communication strategy for the optimal growth of our affiliate. This includes evaluating the WMF Communication and Social Media Strategy alongside reviewing strategies of other movement bodies.
Affiliate Strategy and community meetups
[edit]Subject to Wikimedia Foundation Affiliates Strategy, we look forward to reviewing and evaluating our current processes and methods and aim to set up a board comprising members from our male and female volunteers to streamline the decision-making process. Tentatively, we plan to have over two community meetups in New Delhi during this period.
Collaborations and partnerships
[edit]- Helping streamline Koshur Collective together with Kashmiri Wikimedians User Group. This collective will help bring thematic knowledge from the region of Kashmir and also represent our vision on Kashmiri language projects.
- Together with Eng Res Co and our Wiki Club Jamia, we will engage the scientific community at Jamia Millia Islamia in various Wikimedia activities.
- Curate a set of educational resources with the support of NDEC Wikipedia Editorial and Research Team to engage student community in our activities. This will also include organizing a mini bootcamp.
- Organize a Wikipedia awareness workshop in collaboration with the Computer Department at Darul Uloom Deoband, facilitated by our Wiki Club Deoband.
Wiki Clubs
[edit]Through our three Wiki Clubs, we support the growth of Wikimedia movement in and around three prominent educational institutions in India, Aligarh Muslim University, Darul Uloom Deoband and the Jamia Millia Islamia.
Wiki Club AMU
[edit]Wiki Club AMU was established on 31 May 2024. The first Core Organizing Team meeting took place on 13 July 2024, in Aligarh to define the aims and objectives of the club and establish values for its future growth. We look forward to supporting the club's development in accordance with the recommendations from the COT meetup and our strategic directions. The key ideas include:
- Establish Clear Goals for Wiki Club AMU
- Team Formation for Different Operations
- Volunteer Engagement and Recognition
- Content Plan for Social Media
- Planning for the Upcoming Events
Wiki Club Deoband
[edit]Wiki Club Deoband was established on 2 July 2024 to engage the students and alumni of Darul-Uloom Deoband and other surrounding Islamic seminaries in free knowledge movement through Wikimedia projects. In its initial meetup, the COT decided to target Urdu Wikipedia involving the students and alumni of the Darul Uloom Deoband in training sessions, editathons and other activities focusing on the inclusion and improvement of over 60 articles related to books and authors of Dars-e-Nizami. The club envisions organising over five training workshops in Urdu language, and translating all of the Wiki Minute vidoes into the language.
The club aims to collaborate with the Computer Department at Darul Uloom Deoband to actively involve the seminary's students in its activities.
Wiki Club Jamia
[edit]At the Wiki Club Jamia, our agenda is to redefine and restructure the Core Organising Team - which will take the club ahead and engage more students and alumni. Although, the club has an informal membership of over 90+ participants, only 10+ happen to contribute actively. We will support the development of a well established COT, majorly involving undergraduate and postgraduate regular students, and guiding them to lead the club. We also look forward to offering a few workshops under our Wikimedia Primer series at the Wiki Club Jamia.
Heritage Lens
[edit]Heritage Lens is one of our successful programs which has so far helped us bring over 470 images on Wikimedia Commons. For this term, we envision a "Highway Heritage walk" targetting images from the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway which spreads over 247 kilometers. We will locally collaborate with Kashmiri Wikimedians User Group for this edition of the Heritage Lens.
Train a Wikipedian
[edit]We aim to evaluate CIS-A2K's Train-a-Wikipedian program based on our requirements and organise over two hands-on training sessions involving about twelve Wikimedians associated with our Wiki Clubs. We look forward to collaborating with CIS-A2K on this initiative.
Wikidata 12
[edit]We plan to celebrate the 12th birthday of Wikidata with a thematic label-a-thon and birthday celebration. We will engage our volunteers in improving Wikidata items in Arabic, Kashmiri and Urdu languages.
The event is tentatively scheduled for 29-31 October 2024.
