Did you organize campaigns and events to close the gender gap last March 2024 during Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day? Let's share our outcomes and learn together: join us on June 27 at 12:00 UTC (Zoom link upon registration on this page above). Interpretation will be available in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

Context[edit]

March 8th marks the annual celebration of International Women’s Day, and an opportunity to advance the achievements of the women’s rights and gender equity movement globally. This seminal international holiday also coincides with Women’s History Month in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

To respond to the gender gap and create opportunities to grow content on women and non-binary people on Wikipedia, the Gender Organizing community in the Wikimedia Movement hosts an annual campaign every March called Celebrate Women. This campaign is an important opportunity for the Wikimedia movement to engage with the work of different communities highlighting the gender gap in each Wikimedia project.

The Wikimedia Foundation Campaign Programs team has been supporting the Wikimedia movement’s efforts in this area, working with seasoned organizers to advance the coordination of efforts to close the gender gap.

We would like to invite you to this Celebrate Women 2024 learning debrief conversation hour hour to:

  • Celebrate community efforts
    • We will hear from gender organizers from three regions: ESEAP (Dian Agustín from Wikimedia Indonesia), LAC (Vic Sfriso from Wikimedia Argentina), and SSA (Bukola James from CodeforAfrica and Ruby-D Brown from Africa Wiki Women) about their March campaigns' outcomes.
    • Hear from you on what your community did this last March during International Women’s Day!
  • Reflect on Celebrate Women global campaign results
  • Learn about Wikipedia Needs More Women campaign results
  • Understand how the event registration tool helped you improve your event registration experience
  • Agree on how we want to work together for next year’s campaign and what's the support needed from the Wikimedia Foundation

See you there!
