The Creole language is spoken in several places in the Caribbean region. This language is derived from several colonial languages (French, English, Spanish or Portuguese). The one spoken in Haiti is much closer to French and it is the same for several other places in the American-Caribbean area (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyana, the islands of Dominica, Saint Lucia), as in Louisiana and four islands in the Indian Ocean (Mauritius, Seychelles, Rodrigues, and Reunion). On the other hand, on the Wikipedia in Haiti Creole, it is almost Haitian volunteers who contribute to it and for the moment there are only about fifty active contributors, while on the other versions several dialects meet and arrive at contribute in the same language.
This in-depth research is to help us first identify the constraints, the points of difficulty and blockages to the contribution to the Haitian Creole Wikipedia. And on the basis of these results we will put in place solutions to meet these constraints.
Goals
- Gathering Creole speakers around the same Wikimedia language version projects
- Towards the organization of a Caribbean Wiki convention
- Creation of a new group of contributors to the Caribbean region
