TGMA Wiki Hackathon

The transition from the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) in 2024 stems from Vodafone's acquisition by Telecel, prompting a change in the project name for this year. Consequently, the VGMA Hack Night has been rebranded as the TGMA Hack Night. The TGMA Hack Night serves as an inclusive event by Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) uniting members of the open community in Ghana, fostering collaboration and engagement. Its primary focus lies in hosting an edit-a-thon night, where participants contribute to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2024 (TGMA) by updating and enhancing relevant information on platforms such as Wikipedia and its sister projects.

This event not only reflects the evolving landscape of the music industry but also underscores the importance of community involvement in shaping the trajectory of the TGMA. By providing a platform for collective action and participation, the TGMA Hack Night stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in driving positive change within the music awards ecosystem.

Focus[edit]

At this year's hack night, our primary goal is to localize our contributions to English Wikipedia in two languages: Twi and Ghanaian Pidgin. We'll be focusing on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. We invite all open community members in Ghana to join us in creating a lasting impact for both the present and future generations.
