General[edit]

Although a complete program will only be available in July, the outline for the conference is as follows:

Saturday, November 3rd: The first day will mainly focus on topics relating to the Wikimedia movement. There will be lectures and workshops about developments and tools such as Structured Data on Commons and Wikidata, and their importance to GLAM. At the end of the day there will be guided tours, courtesy of the Tel Aviv municipality.

Sunday, November 4th: The second day is designated to bring together Wikimedians and GLAM professionals, to learn and discuss how to build and promote collaborations. The opening talk will be given by Wikimedia Foundation's Executive Director, Katherine Maher, followed by our first keynote speaker Kate Zwaard - Director of Digital Strategy at the Library of Congress. There will be parallel sessions to present projects, discuss issues, learn practical skills and more - all relating to GLAM and free knowledge. The day will conclude with a festive dinner.

Monday, November 5th: Loic Tallon - Chief Digital Officer of the Metropolitan Museum of Art - will give the second keynote talk. The program will continue until lunch, and may include a hackathon/editathon/Wikidatathon activities. The conference will end officially at 16:00.

Content Submission[edit]

Content submission for the conference will open on March 18th. The deadline for submissions is May 7th, midnight (wherever you are in the world).

The submissions will be reviewed by the program committee, and you will also be able to support your favorite submissions. We will try to build a diverse and interesting program, with several different formats, and also free times where attendees can chat, work, hack, and organize some informal meetups.

You can propose different types submissions:

  • Talk (the usual conference format. 30 min)
  • Workshop (small group, on a specific topic, with time for attendees to practice - 30 min, 60 min, or 90 min)
  • Discussion (all participants take active part in the discussion led by a facilitator, 30 min)
  • Panel (2-5 panelists, sharing time to discuss a topic, with or without a facilitator, 30 min)
  • Lightning talk (5 min)
  • Meetup (informal meeting of a specific sub-group of editors, structured data on commons, librarians, wikidata, GLAM addicts, etc.)
  • Other (please explain further)

Feel free to submit several proposals if you have many ideas! Please note that this is not a limited list of formats! Feel free to propose other formats if they suit your proposal better. If your submission is selected, we will do our best to support your vision (considering the schedule and our financial and logistical resources), so be creative :)

Regarding the contents, we encourage diversity as well.

If you have an idea and are looking for people to work on it with you, feel free to add a message on the talk page.

To submit a proposal: submit here. If you have any question, feel free to contact the program committee.
