Request changes

[edit]

We understand that sometimes plans change. Please use this button to request approval for changes to your grant’s budget while your project is in progress. Any variation of 20% or more to any line item in your budget must be approved by staff here before you make the change (for projects with budgets of $15,000 or more, the accepted variance is 10%).

Budget change request

[edit]
  • I'm just noting here that I went to the American Library Association mid-winter meeting between January 24-26th. I got in free as an exhibitor with OCLC, attended the Friday LibHack Hackathon for free, and stayed in a hostel. It was $200 for the whole deal including all travel and lodging. At the hackathon we developed a popular tool to surface content from the Digital Public Library of America, and we presented about the OCLC full text tool and Wikipedia Visiting Scholars program to a group of 20 university librarians (including Stanford, Rutgers, Berkeley, and Montana State). It'd be nice if this very TWL-centric event could be funded, either from the Travel budget for Las Vegas if available, or otherwise as an additional component. Regular value for the registration and lodging and travel would have been well over $1000, so we got a great deal out of it!
Hi Ocaasi - you've got $1000 budgeted for TWL travel related to this phase of the grant, and that was approved by WMF as a single line-item (see above, I've simplified your approved finances table a bit to help make this clearer). So what I'd suggest for now is that you simply consider this $200 as your first expense against your current travel budget. If you later find that you're coming close to exceeding that budget, at that point you could request approval for a reallocation or some other alternative. Hope that makes sense? Cheers, Siko (WMF) (talk) 20:27, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Note

[edit]

Patrick Earley (User:The Interior) will no longer be paid for his work as of April 25th, 2014. Patrick earned $1,875 up until that point, out of a budget $6,000. He will be compensated for the hours he worked up until that date, but the remaining funds which were allocated for his work will be held until I find a suitable use for them (accompanied by a new budget change request), or they will simply be returned at the grant's end.

Update: I have brought on Alex Stinson, (User:Sadads) take on the co-coordinator role. Sadads has deep experience in the Education Program, Digital Humanities, and GLAM outreach. I think he will be an awesome fit with our ongoing projects. His first priorities will be partner outreach to find more database donations; visiting scholar outreach to find more participating universities; and exploring a pilot TWL intern program for library school students. Welcome Sadads!! Ocaasi (talk) 18:11, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Rationale

[edit]

Because Patrick is now a full-time Wikimedia Foundation contractor, he is no longer eligible to be paid as a contractor of The Wikipedia Library through the IEG program.
