Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

Harassment

What is your solution?[edit]

An idea is for Admin to remove the ability for repeat harrassers to hide behind anonymous user names. After incidents of harassements, they need to be required to provide Photo ID and real name to continue to edit. Exposing harassers real identities may help reduce/eliminate the incidents.

Endorsements[edit]

  • As a last step before a global ban this might be appropriate, i.e. if the WMF is at wits end trying to stop a certain episode of harassment and User:X appears to be the perpetrator, rather than banning him immediately, the WMF might tell him to turn on his e-mail function, the send reasonable identification that can be verified. Maybe even sign an agreement about what he may not do (in specific). This might stop the harassment, or even make it easier to ban him if he doesn't follow the agreement. But obviously it wouldn't work all the time, it shouldn't be applied willy-nilly, and it really shouldn't delay a ban that the WMF knows it's going to make anyway.
