- The requestee plans to use screen capture software to author video tutorials with potential interactivity, including, but not limited to quizzes (self-checks), for certain Wikipedia tools and processes (primarily regarding software-assisted editing and the patrol/anti-vandalism process, but the requestee is open to community input for tutorial topics). These videos will be appropriately licensed and published on Commons. This proposal has been discussed at length on a flow funder individual portal and in a subsequent request, but has since been determined to be more appropriate for a general grant request.

Goals and measures of success
- This statement describes what will be accomplished if the project is successful.
- This project will create positive change by lowering the barriers-to-entry for Wikipedia participants with respect to software-assisted tools. Video tutorials will be an intuitive and user-friendly way to introduce the tools and the often complex policies that surround them. I (as flow funder) believe (and my academic research has supported) the notion that we increasingly need efficient and tool-supported means to do patrolling and other maintenance tasks. While the WMF has a strategic pillar (per its 2015 plan) to "improve quality", I would argue that maintaining our current content from damage is just as important. Though English Wikipedia is the primary target project, the subject matter of these tutorials sometimes do cross language barriers (e.g., the "Huggle" tool has many language editions); and we could imagine the creation of dubbed/close-captioned tutorials in natural languages besides English.
Measures of success

- We will consider this project to be a success primarily based upon usage, which could be monitored using a hit counter. Furthermore, while the proposed tutorials would be available via Wikimedia Commons, it is my intention to incorporate them into a Wikipedia Education Course that incorporates both the CVUA and Adoption programs, to some extent, along with additional editing/tool advice. Thus, successful completion of this program could also be factored in, when developed. The most important success would manifest itself in a great quantity of quality editors as well as a greater quantity of proper tool users; this can be calculated to some extent by comparing the rate of new tool user edits pre-and-post video and monitoring whether their edits are constructive.

- Should this project receive funding, Jackson Peebles will immediately purchase, using his academic credentials, an Adobe Captivate license and the applicable headset. He will create tutorials on STiki, Huggle, Twinkle, and various user permissions (how to obtain them, what circumstances necessitate them, and how to use them properly), as well as other tutorials based upon community input. I anticipate this being an ongoing project that does not end on the "end date" but rather is perpetual. However, with software and adequate recording equipment, no further costs are anticipated, as this will be a voluntary project.

- Jackson Peebles has been involved with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' online learning platforms (including work at global conferences and media production for the IFRC) and has utilized online learning platforms from the American Red Cross, Michigan Virtual University, Khan Academy, and numerous others. He has utilized Adobe Captivate in the past to create commercial tutorials. Jackson is a Wikipedia editor with reviewer, rollback, course instructor, and account creator permissions. He primarily focuses on welcoming new users, reverting vandalism, and minor copyedits. He is an undergraduate student who is majoring in Behavioral Science at Western Michigan University and a member of the American Red Cross DSHR System and the IFRC, where he has specialized in digital media on behalf of the international organization. - It is reasonable to hope that this project stands to increase reach, participating, quality, and, as a result, organizational effectiveness and financial sustainability, incorporating all aforementioned key organizational objectives. Many edits from IP users or new editors are low-quality because of the learning curve attributable to using Wikipedia. However, well-intentioned editors, once acquainted with how Wikipedia works and can be edited properly, have, in my experience, gone on to contribute in vast quantities at a high quality, in turn eventually moving on to revert vandalism, thus improving the quantity of editors by not alienating them through the learning curve while producing better articles as a result of proper training, resulting in improved credibility due to decreased vandalism and improved edit quality. This, in turn, could conceivably increase the quantity and type of end-user, which could also result in increased donations as the community's trust and use in Wikimedia projects increases.

- Yes. Anyone can create a tutorial or even interactive material given a proper format, ideas, and knowledge. While the objective is to make sure that these videos are of public, widescale-use quality, thus necessitating some mid-priced equipment, the community can easily get involved through translations (closed captioning can be translated directly in text when using Captivate) or their own videos.
