Part 1 Understanding your work
[edit]1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented.
It was mentioned in the mid-term report that forming communities of lecturers and students brings the improvements of quality and quantity to Mandarin articles. Wikimedia article writing is still a part of the courses to promote students to upload contents.
The cooperation with National Taiwan History Museum in Tainan, Hsin Kang Foundation of culture and education (新港文教基金會) and National Singang senior high school of Arts(國立新港藝術高中), History Department of National Dong Hwa University in Hualien, as well as workshop held together with East Taiwan Studies Association in Taidong, has brought fruitful results. The contents of local culture and knowledge are presented to the society through the platforms of Wikimedia.
Ps. 「新港」's different spellings: ‘Hsin Kang ’, ‘Singang’ & ‘Xingang’.
2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals?
We find that university could play important role in the open knowledge and wekimedia movement as a platform to coordinate different stakeholders such as NGOs, citizens, local high school teachers and students, university teachers and students. Through the collaboration with communities and participants, it is easier to collect data and to write articles. It is also important to seek professional help to digitalize historical materials for better conservation and further research, while thanks to the help of Wikimedia Taiwan for promoting the use of several Wiki-related platforms and knowledge spreading.
In the Dept. of History, NCKU, Wikimedia article writing is still a part of the courses for students to upload contents. For example, courses participants are asked to digitalize the information of doctors recorded in the book of "Handbook of Outstanding Doctors in Taiwan" (1958) to Wikidata and to take present photos of the clinics.
As to the local cultural aspects, the Taiwanese proverbs collecting with the elderly in Xingang has brought the combination of Chinese writing, latinization of the Taiwanese spelling , vocal records and their meaning. While the Wikidata workshop in the Singang senior high school had trained the participants to collect local sites' information and produce a guide book with several routes to introduce their hometown to others.

3. Would you say that your project had any innovations? Are there things that you did very differently than you have seen them done by others?
The innovation of this project lies in using universities as anchors and platforms to integrate and connect communities and groups across different locations, fostering collaborative learning and progress. It represents a positive cycle of mutual learning between professional and local knowledge. On one hand, local groups unfamiliar with the operation of the Wiki platform can learn how to utilize this tool through the project. On the other hand, faculty and students from university departments can gain a deeper understanding of local perspectives and lifestyles, addressing blind spots in existing academic knowledge. Taking Taiwan as an example, current Wiki content predominantly centers around the capital, Taipei, which is also the main hub for Wiki activities and knowledge production. This project aims to cultivate students as practitioners and advocates of Wiki, empowering them with the ability to lead relevant activities and integrate existing academic knowledge into Wiki content in collaboration with local groups. Simultaneously, through participating in the writing of local Wiki articles, we often discover that there is a lack of good research or investigation on issues that matter to local communities. At such times, university faculty and students can identify shortcomings in existing research and embark on relevant studies to address those gaps.
4. Please describe how different communities participated and/or were informed about your work.

G. Increased participants' feelings of belonging and connection to the movement. | Strongly agree |
7. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?
The elder people is underrepresented in the wikimedia and in our society in general. Our strategy is to use historical material to communicate with elder people in local community and collect their ways of saying local proverbs, and upload their sound and stories to Wiki Commons. The book we use is called "The Collection of Proverbs in Taiwan"(《臺灣俚諺集覽》/たいわん りげん しゅうみ, the introduction in Mandarin: https://zh.wikipedia.org/zh-tw/%E8%87%BA%E7%81%A3%E4%BF%9A%E8%AB%BA%E9%9B%86%E8%A6%BD), published in the period under Japanese rule.
In this book, the editors had collected plenty of Taiwanese proverbs, their pronunciation written in Katakana and meaning in Japanese. This book has conserved the local proverbs since 1914 and become a good material for people nowadays. All the proverbs are uploaded to the Wikiversity to form a structure at first, rest of the contents are waiting for uploading.
Part 2: Your main learning
[edit]8. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?
9. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities?
10. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?
11. If you were sitting with a friend to tell them one thing about your work during this fund, what would it be (think of inspiring or fascinating moments, tough challenges, interesting anecdotes, or anything that feels important to you)?
12. Please share resources that would be useful to share with other Wikimedia organizations so that they can learn from, adapt or build upon your work. For instance, guides, training material, presentations, work processes, or any other material the team has created to document and transfer knowledge about your work and can be useful for others. Please share any specific resources that you are creating, adapting/contextualizing in ways that are unique to your context (i.e. training material).

Lack of volunteer time to participate in capacity building/training, Lack of staff time to participate in capacity building/training, Lack of financial resources
18. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your organizational capacity has grown, and areas where you require support?
19. Partnerships over the funding period.
A. We built strategic partnerships with other institutions or groups that will help us grow in the medium term (3 year time frame) | Strongly agree |
B. The partnerships we built with other institutions or groups helped to bring in more contributors from underrepresented groups | Strongly agree |
C. The partnerships we built with other institutions or groups helped to build out more content on underrepresented topics/groups | Strongly agree |
19a. Which of the following factors most helped you to build partnerships? Please pick a MAXIMUM of the three most relevant factors.
Staff hired through the fund, Institutional support from the Wikimedia Foundation, Partners proactive interest
19b. Which of the following factors hindered your ability to build partnerships? Please pick a MAXIMUM of the three most relevant factors.
Limited funding period, Lack of interest from partners
20. Please share your learning about strategies to build partnerships with other institutions and groups and any other learning about working with partners?
Part 5: Sense of belonging and collaboration
[edit]21. What would it mean for your organization to feel a sense of belonging to the Wikimedia or free knowledge movement?
22. How has your (for individual grantees) or your group/organization’s (for organizational grantees) sense of belonging to the Wikimedia or free knowledge movement changed over the fund period?
Increased significantly
23. If you would like to, please share why it has changed in this way.
24. How has your group/organization’s sense of personal investment in the Wikimedia or free knowledge movement changed over the fund period?
Increased significantly
25. If you would like to, please share why it has changed in this way.
26. Are there other movements besides the Wikimedia or free knowledge movement that play a central role in your motivation to contribute to Wikimedia projects? (for example, Black Lives Matter, Feminist movement, Climate Justice, or other activism spaces) If so, please describe it below.
