Wikimedia Rwanda strives to create a sustainable and thriving free knowledge ecosystem in Rwanda. We seek to achieve this by:

  • Improving user experience: Enhancing the Kinyarwanda Wikipedia experience by increasing the quality and quantity of articles.
  • Expanding contributions: Contributing to other Wikimedia projects like Wikidata and Wikiquote through campaigns like the @#Shesaid Campaign.
  • Fostering innovation: Partnering with Rwandan institutions to drive knowledge sharing and innovation through Wikimedia projects.
  • Promoting equity and inclusion: Building a diverse and inclusive community by actively engaging women, girls, and individuals with disabilities.
Challenges and Strategies

The 2024-2025 Grant Proposal will focus on various themes that include :

Theme 1
Skills and Leadership Development
-Baseline: Existing training programs and resources.
-Target: Implement specialized training workshops on Kinyarwanda Wikipedia editing, Wikidata editing, and project management in collaboration with Kinyarwanda language experts from Rwanda Heritage Academy.
-Activities: Develop training materials, invite experienced editors as trainers, and provide mentoring opportunities.
Theme 2
Quality Community Growth
-Baseline: 50 members, 30 active participants, 3 engaged secondary schools.
-Target: Increase active members to 100, engage 10 secondary schools, and achieve 40% overall member participation.
-Activities: Organize outreach programs in schools, conduct community outreach events, and provide ongoing support to new members.
Theme 3
Promotion of Kinyarwanda Language on Wikimedia Projects

The Assistant Community Quality Growth and Project Coordinator: Provides support and assistance to the Community & Quality Growth, and Project Coordinator and contributes to the development and execution of community engagement and project activities. May also take on specific tasks related to content quality control, editing support, or event logistics.

Manages the financial resources of Wikimedia Rwanda. Prepares budgets, tracks expenses, and ensures financial compliance and grant management.

5. Social media Manager: Develops and implements a social media strategy for our user group. Creates and shares engaging content on social media platforms. Monitors conversations and manages online reputation.Promotes Wikimedia projects and initiatives to a wider audience.

6. Graphic designer; Creates visual materials for Wikimedia Rwanda, such as posters, flyers, presentations, and social media graphics, Maintains the visual identity of our organization.
