日本では大多数の人がWikipediaの影響力を理解し、情報源として利用している一方で、Wikipediaを信用できないものと考えてそこに間違いや情報の不足を感じても、自らは編集しようとしません。その行動しない理由の多く、Wikipediaに対する不信感の多くは、Wikipediaの様々な方針や可能性が一般にはあまり知られていないことに起因します。

私は、私が主幹を務める有志のウィキペディアン・グループedit Tangoのメンバー数名とともに、まだWikipediaを編集したことがない人々に対して、その参加障壁を低くする機会をウィキメディア外の様々なコミュニティと協力して創出します。また、図書館・教育機関・地域の住民組織等がウィキペディアエディタソンや勉強会の開催を希望した場合、その企画が可能な限り良い成果を得られるよう、講師・ファシリテーターまたは一般参加の編集者として協力します。 　また、私達が2019年からこれまでに実施した100回以上のエディタソンで作成してきたWikipedia日本語版の、日本文化や伝統産業、特産品などの充実した項目について、Wikipedia英語版の加筆編集と新規作成を行います。Wikipediaに充実した新規項目を作成することは、簡単だと感じる編集者もいますが、私達のチームの多くの参加者は難しいと感じています。人には様々な特性や特技があり、私は私達のチームの参加者が苦手なことややりたくないことを求めません。新規項目を作成することを好まない参加者は、替わりにすでにある日本の優れた項目を短く充実した内容に翻案し、それを英訳してWikipedia英語版を充実させることで、私達の文化や歴史がより多くの言語版に記録されるきっかけとなることをめざします。

2024年3月3日時点で計画している主催事業は、次の№１～13です。 日本の年度切り替えは4月であるため、他の運営母体によって包括的に計画されている図書館総合展の企画内で開催を予定しているウィキペディア展覧会の一部は、助成金認可前の4-6月の事業が含まれます。出展費用を立て替えて実施することは可能なため、資金提供は急ぎませんが、本申請が認可された際には、遡って適用いただけますよう、お願いします。 以下、№１～３が、それに該当します。

これらすべての要望を実現するのは、費用も重要ですが、それ以上に私の持てる時間に限界があり、この１年間ですべて達成するのは現実的ではないかもしれません。企画立案者や関係者の準備が整っている地域、より必要性が高いと多くの人が思い企画実現に向けて動いている地域から、できるだけサポートしていきたいと思います。

  • №14については、各企画の主催者から交通費が支給される場合もありますが、そうでない場合や必要な宿泊費が不足の場合、協力参加する他のウィキペディアンの交通費と宿泊費は、助成金で補填したいと考えています。

あわせて、特に各地の郷土資料を必要とするためウィキペディア日本語版に項目が十分でない、地方の伝統産業や伝統文化に関する項目の充実に必要な調査活動を行います。過去の例だと「行田足袋」「越前漆器」などについて、地方のエディタソンに参加するついでに延泊調査し、新規立項や既存記事の改善を行っています。

　2019年に地域住民の数名とともにedit Tangoを結成以来、100以上のエディタソンに関わってきました。そのなかで、数十名のウィキペディアユーザーと知り合い、時に協働してきましたが、エディタソンで初心者とともにWikipediaに項目を作成していくには、必ずしも編集経験が豊富なウィキペディアンが適しているわけではなく、編集経験は浅くともWikipediaの充実によって何を得たいか、エディタソンへの参加目的の近い者同士で協働するほうが、新規参入者の継続率が高く、長い目で見て多くの成果を得られることを実感しました。 　その経験から、各企画ごとに、そのねらいに応じて「編集活動自体が好きな人」「ファシリテーションにたけている人」「初心者と一緒に学びあうのが好きな人」など、参加者みなさんが楽しくウィキメディア運動に参加できるメンバーに協力を依頼し、だれもが心理的・金銭的負担なく活動できる相手と提携する予定です。また、特に地方でのウィキペディアタウン開催にあたっては、参加者を公募することは時に困難であることから、できるだけその地域で活動する社会人グループや教育機関などの外部の団体と連携します。
