  3. We aim to partner with a mission-aligned organization such as academic institutions, the National Centre for Yoruba Arts and Culture (we already met with this institution), students associations such as the National Association of Yoruba Students.#We plan to organize several capacity-building programs such as training on Yoruba Wikipedia editing, Wikidata and data visualization, how to use various tools, grant-making, and reporting, program or project evaluation, Universal Code of Conduct, and community-building.
  4. We aim to support community members, a mission-aligned group with small funds (not more than USD 500) that have good projects that could advance our objectives. We also plan to subsidize the internet data cost for active members of the community who could not afford to purchase internet data.

Capacity Building

Our participants, depending on the project are young adults and adults who speak and write the Yoruba language at any level.

We hope to retain them through mentorships programs to keep them engaged with the Yoruba Wikipedia and Wiktionary activities.

Other ways to retain volunteers include but not limited to the following:

  1. Yoruba Wiki Fan Clubs – The Yoruba Wikimedians User Group has a Wiki Fan Club at the University of Lagos, and we are already working on a fan club at Lagos State University. We plan to increase the number of our fan clubs and these clubs will serve as focal points for Yoruba language and linguistics students in these academic institutions. They will organize periodic or monthly meetups to engage their members with technical supports and other forms of support from the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group.
  2. Engagement and building capacity for staff and networks of Yoruba-focused organizations: We plan to work with language-focused organizations, particularly Yoruba language-focused organizations or groups who will continue to engage the people within their network on how to contribute to Yoruba Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and other related Wikimedia projects.
  3. Meetup – There would be a monthly meetup with a mix of new and established editors and each month will have its theme and activities tailored towards understanding the challenges of new editors and improving their works. Each month, the most positive and active editors will be appreciated with merchandise.
  4. Small funding support - We plan to award small funding support, not more than USD 500 for individuals, groups, and mission-aligned organizations with pragmatic and high-impact projects to advance our objectives. This would give the grantees a sense of belonging and encourage them to do more and stay in the community.
