Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...

B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Strongly agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

This was the first project taken by the members of Kashmiri Wikipedia. As such working on a common goal brought the participants close and they shared the experience of the different topics. Besides this the gap that existed due to no resources on this Wikipedia was filled by taking this project. It also helped us to gain experience of organizing such projects.

  • We have integrated the pathway of these help pages into the welcome message as such we are directing newcomers to get some insight of editing thereby enhancing there abilities to edit.
  • Some existing user were also included in this project, They took different topics to work on as such they got experience about the topics and also about implementing the grant project and work in a collaborative environment. Some of the hardships they faced were addressed with one on one chat via different channels that we had established earlier.
  • During this project community concluded that the interface should be translated properly before taking any such project in future. We try to organize online events to translate the interface so that the we feel more Kashmiri on this Wikipedia.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

We have seen a fluctuation in the prices of different items that were brought during this project. However a section for other expenses in the grant was really helpful in fixing the fluctuation. As such we advices to keep this thing in every project. There were some personal problems with a participant as such they could not contribute fully.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

  • A grant should be prepared months before the proposed start day of the project.
  • Detailed information should be given so as to reduce any delays.
  • A project plan should be laid down to progress.
  • A member should be designated for peer reviewing of different sections of the work.
  • In case of any purchases, they delay of the orders should be kept in mind.
