Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Edo History Write-a-thon 2024:Preserving a Vibrant Legacy (ID: 22451576)/Final Report
Application type: Standard application
Part 1: Project and impact
1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)
The project engaged in several key activities that aided the success of the project. These activities included: 1. Capacity Building (Training) at the University of Benin: To equip participants with the necessary skills for contributing high-quality content to Wikipedia, a series of online and one in-person training sessions was conducted. These sessions aim to enhance the participants' understanding of the intricacies involved in contributing to Wikipedia effectively.
2. Write-a-thon: The project also focused on generating local expert knowledge to close the content gap in Wikipedia. This was achieved through the write-a-thon and edit-a-thon activities organized.
3. List Building: To ensure that the campaign results in the creation and improvement of notable and relevant articles, the project organizers compiled a list of pertinent Edo-related topics. This curated list served as a guide during the write-a-thon and edit-a-thon, aiding participants in selecting and contributing to topics that align with the project's objectives.
4. Tracking and Monitoring of Participants' Contributions: Utilizing the outreachdashboard, the project's core organizers systematically tracked and monitor the activities of editors. This strategic approach ensured that the project attained its desired goals by overseeing and evaluating the contributions of participants throughout the campaign.
Overall, the capacity building activities were very effective especially since majority of the participants were new editors
