Part 1: Project and impact
[edit]1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)
The implemented activities included a Wikipedia Marathon edit-a-thon, a lively online discussion forum and collaborative editing session, and a final meetup on February 17th. These activities aimed to amplify the voices of Cypriot women on Wikipedia, overcome gender bias, and foster inclusivity in the online space.
The results achieved were significant, even though there was not a substantial increase in the number of articles created and enriched related to Cypriot women nevertheless the events provided a platform for participants to share experiences, insights, and challenges, fostering collaboration and ongoing learning.
One of the most effective approaches was the collaborative editing sessions, where participants worked together in real-time to create and improve articles. These sessions encouraged active participation, facilitated knowledge sharing, and provided immediate feedback, resulting in tangible contributions to Wikipedia. Additionally, the final meetup allowed for reflection on the impact of participants' efforts and provided an opportunity for celebration and recognition.

Part 2: Learning
[edit]4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below: Learning Question 1: Where are we at the moment when it comes to gender participation? By analyzing the data collected through this project or proposal, we aim to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of gender participation within our Wikimedia community. Learning Question 2: How long will it take us to minimize the gap when it comes to local content? Through the implementation of this project or proposal, we seek to assess the progress made in minimizing the gender gap in local content creation. Learning Question 3: Why is minimizing the gender gap important? Understanding the importance of minimizing the gender gap is vital for guiding our efforts and advocating for change within the Wikimedia community.
Learning Question 1: Where are we at the moment when it comes to gender participation? We observed that there is still a significant gender gap in participation, with a higher representation of male contributors compared to female contributors. This understanding helped us tailor our strategies to address this gap more effectively in future projects.
Learning Question 2: How long will it take us to minimize the gap when it comes to local content? While small progress was made in increasing the representation of women in Wikipedia articles related to Cypriot women, we recognize that more sustained efforts are needed to fully address this gap. We aim to continue monitoring and evaluating our progress in future projects to ensure ongoing improvement.
Learning Question 3: Why is minimizing the gender gap important? Throughout our project, we reaffirmed the importance of minimizing the gender gap in Wikimedia participation. We observed that a more diverse contributor base leads to a richer and more comprehensive representation of knowledge on Wikipedia. By understanding the significance of this issue, we are better equipped to advocate for change within our Wikimedia community and prioritize initiatives aimed at promoting gender diversity and inclusivity.
Moving forward, we hope to use these learnings to inform the design and implementation of future projects aimed at addressing the gender gap in Wikimedia participation. We will continue to leverage data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy efforts to drive meaningful change and create a more inclusive and diverse Wikimedia community.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
Yes, several unexpected and surprising situations arose during the implementation of our activities, both positive and negative:
Positive: Unexpectedly high turnout - We were pleasantly surprised by the high turnout of participants for our Wikipedia Marathon edit-a-thon and other events. The level of interest and enthusiasm exceeded our expectations, demonstrating a strong desire within the community to contribute to the project's goals. This reinforced the importance of the project and motivated us to further engage and support participants.
Positive: Unexpected collaboration opportunities - Throughout the project, we encountered unexpected opportunities for collaboration with other organizations and community groups. These collaborations will allow us to expand our reach, access additional resources, and leverage diverse expertise to enhance the project's impact. We learned the value of being open to collaboration and seizing opportunities as they arise.
Negative: Technical difficulties - We experienced unexpected blocking of users during the event which disrupted the flow of the events and caused frustration among participants. However, we learned the importance of having contingency plans in place and we quickly addressed the issue to minimize disruption and maintain engagement.
Negative: Limited participation from certain groups - Despite our efforts to promote inclusivity and diversity, we encountered challenges in engaging Turkish Cypriots and people from the Latin and the Armenian Communities.
Overall, these unexpected situations provided valuable learning experiences and insights into the dynamics of community engagement and project implementation. We learned the importance of flexibility, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving in navigating unexpected challenges and maximizing the impact of our activities.
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
Our plan to share our project learnings and results with other community members involves multiple strategies aimed at maximizing dissemination and impact:
Presentation at community events: We intend to present our project learnings and results at relevant community events, such as Wikimedia meetups, and workshops. These presentations will provide an opportunity to share insights, best practices, and key takeaways with a wider audience of community members.
Publication in online platforms: We will publish updates about our project in online platforms frequented by Wikimedia community members. This will allow us to reach a broad audience and spark discussions around project outcomes and implications.
Social media and online engagement: We will leverage social media platforms and online engagement strategies to disseminate project updates, share success stories, and encourage dialogue among community members. This will help amplify the reach of our project and foster collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Wikimedia community.
Collaboration with partner organizations: We will collaborate with partner organizations and stakeholders involved in similar initiatives to share learnings, exchange insights, and explore opportunities for mutual support and collaboration. This collaborative approach will enhance the dissemination of project learnings and results across diverse networks and communities.
By employing these strategies, we aim to ensure that our project learnings and results reach a wide and diverse audience within the Wikimedia community, fostering learning, collaboration, and collective impact.
