Part 1 Understanding your work
[edit]1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented
The main activity was to train, engage and empower women in Zimbabwe to be information producers. The activities went as planned and the trainings helped a lot to explain what Wikimedia is and how they can contribute from Zimbabwe. 21 editors both old and new ones joined the initiative but only 12 managed to pull throughout the course of trainings. Topics that were taught were the basics of Wikipedia, the dos and donts of the Wikimedia. One of the participants had other motives that totally disqualified him as he wanted to market his Youtube channel. The other topic was on the Wikimedia incubator. Zimbabwe's main language is still in the incubator hence the need to take it to the main space. The participants were interested in this topic as they worked hard after the trainings to write new articles. Wikimedia Commons was also taught and the participants were thrilled to know that they can tell their story through visuals.
We had 4 sessions spanning from January to March of learning the basics and do the work within the times. The training sessions were characterized by more than 15 participants both virtually and inhouse and unfortunately only 2 facilitators were there to guide the participants through. On the Facilitators side, we leant a lot on skills and leadership as we had a group of people to lead and also guide on editing and computer skills. The Wiki Loves Women focus group and Alice were of great assistance as we were constantly in touch for questions needed.
2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.
Training on Wikimedia. The training Resources manuals on the Outreach Dashboard are very useful tools. For consistency of the participants, motivations and targets to meet, assignments were the approaches that made the participants active always. An environment fit for training was also a good approach.
3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups | Strongly agree |
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community | Strongly agree |
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups | Strongly agree |
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives | Strongly agree |
E. Encourage the retention of editors | Strongly agree |
F. Encourage the retention of organizers | Strongly agree |
5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?
Librarians have been recently feeling like their jobs have been taken over by the internet however Wikipedia gives them a sense of belonging as they continue to provide information through the Wiki Space.
Part 2: Your main learning
[edit]6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?
I expected to have learned many skills as leader of a gender gap initiative in the Wikimedia network. A great experience it was as l leant how to lead a team of very different people with one goal. Leading people who are full time employees in their different places.
I expected to have extended my network. i have leant on how to get to some places for information as one has to knock on the top doors for approval
I expected to have achieved recruitment, training and team building of new editors in my local area, and intend to follow-up as we build our own Usergroup in Zimbabwe I have 12 new editors ready to start on the Usergroup of our country. After these sessions more people in Zimbabwe want to be trained about Wikimedia, this campaign has opened more doors to more training Zimbabweans
I expect new content to be created about women from my country. English Wikipedia is not easy on living persons therefore we were able to create 1 but have discovered more women that are notable and doing great out there that need to be documented.
7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?
Negatives The venue was too far from everyone hence transportation was expensive
Positives National University of science and Technology Library Department invited us to train them as well but it was too late and the budget was not enough to include them. We promised them to do another training with them only as the man power will be better.
8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?
The leaning curve was great as this has opened more doors to priorities like teaching the basics first before other campaigns as this allows people to have an appreciation first then know what to do next.
My future goals is to have more trainings on How to Contribute from Zimbabwe, Activities include all the Wikimedia Projects that have not found publicity in Africa and Zimbabwe.
9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
