Ilorin, nestled in the heart of Nigeria's Yorubaland, is a cultural gem renowned for its rich tapestry of heritage. Its traditional architecture, adorned with intricate carvings and designs, stands as a testament to the city's diverse influences, blending Islamic and indigenous Yoruba styles, as well as skilled artisans craft intricate textiles, pottery, and beadwork, preserving age-old techniques and cultural motifs that define Ilorin's identity. However, despite the progress made, a noticeable void persists, indicating a deficiency in the preservation and digitilization of these cultural arts and heritage , this brought about an awareness efforts dedicated to nurturing Wikimedia's expansion within the core of Ilorin's community.. The change we aim to bring with the grant proposal "Preserving Ilorin's Cultural Legacy: Documenting Arts and Heritage on Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons" is to digitally document and preserve the cultural heritage of Ilorin, Nigeria, on Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. The main challenge we are addressing is the lack of representation and documentation of Ilorin's cultural legacy on digital platforms. This absence hinders global access and awareness of the richness of Ilorin's cultural heritage. Additionally, there is a risk of cultural erosion and loss due to inadequate preservation efforts.

To achieve this, our main approaches include: 1. Engagement of Local Community: We will actively involve students and youths from various institutions, clubs, and associations within the Ilorin community like Wikimedia Fan Club Unilorin, as a member of the fan club I will collaborate with the executives of the fan club to facilitate participation of members. By recruiting 50 new editors from different higher institutions, writers, photographers and youth associations, we aim to foster a sense of ownership and participation in documenting Ilorin's cultural legacy. 2. Collaborative Platforms: The utilization of collaborative platforms such as WhatsApp groups for new editors complements our broader approach of leveraging the collaborative nature of Wikimedia platforms to engage local communities, cultural experts, and volunteers in documenting Ilorin's arts and heritage. By combining the collaborative features of both Wikimedia platforms and supplementary communication channels like WhatsApp groups, our approach ensures a holistic and inclusive approach to documenting Ilorin's cultural legacy. 3. Training and Capacity Building: Through comprehensive training sessions, participants will be equipped with essential skills for effective contribution to Wikimedia projects. This includes creating accounts, understanding content policies, mastering wikidata editing principles, and understanding how to upload media files relevant to Ilorin's cultural and arts heritage. 5. Monitoring and Support: Leveraging tools like the outreach dashboard will enable us to track contributions and provide one-on-one support to editors. This approach ensures accountability, progress monitoring, and personalized assistance for both offline and online contributors. By implementing these strategies, we aim to catalyze a positive change by digitally documenting and preserving Ilorin's cultural legacy on Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, thereby addressing the existing challenges of underrepresentation and lack of documentation.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
