1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

We implemented the event by carrying out the following activities:

Strategy 1- Community Expansion and Engagement: We contacted the Ministry of Education in Kwara state for a list of schools to work with in Kwara State, we contacted the schools given to us and discussed the program with the School Authorities and we were given names of teachers from the schools.

Strategy 2 - Tailored Teacher Training for OERs and Classroom Activities Building on the foundation laid by the "Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom (RWiC)" curriculum. : We recreated the RWC modules using the new designs provided by the Wikimedia Foundation, We recreated the modules and added the assignments of the past teachers to the modules so the new participants can better understand the modules. We also customized slides which were used to explain the modules and the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Framework.

Strategy 3 - Wikipedia Editing Skills and Curriculum Alignment: Resources were created to educate the teachers on the content of the program and the guidelines of Wikipedia.

Strategy 4 - Mentoring Program Duties of the Certified Teachers: Certified Teachers from the 2022 implementation were invited to mentor the new teachers, Three teachers were chosen from the past implementation and they participated by mentoring the new participants physically and online.

Mentor-Mentee Matching: We paired new participants with certified teachers based on subject expertise and grade level with support from the Facilitators.

Classroom Observations: A few of the new participants carried out training in their schools during the program to demonstrate what they had learnt from the program.

Peer Learning Workshops: We carried out virtual workshops where mentors and mentees share their classroom experiences.

Feedback and Evaluation: We sent out a Feedback form and evaluation form to hear from the participants.

Part 2: Learning[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: Our work within this proposal revolves around assessing educators' understanding, readiness, and long-term engagement with Wikipedia as a teaching tool in Kwara State. We have identified three main domains of inquiry: Awareness, Perception, and Readiness: Objective: Assess the awareness and understanding of teachers in Kwara State regarding UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Framework, Open Education Resources, and Wikipedia. Questions: Are the teachers familiar with the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Framework? Do they recognize and value Wikipedia as an Open Education Resource? What are their perceptions of Wikipedia in relation to classroom education? How does this perception influence their readiness and enthusiasm to incorporate Wikipedia in their curriculum? Training Effectiveness and Implementation: Objective: Gauge the efficacy of the training modules in addressing the needs and expectations of the educators. Questions: Were the training materials clear and comprehensive? Did the modules help teachers understand the practicality of incorporating Wikipedia in the classroom? How well did the training program align with the time commitments and structural expectations of the teachers? How many teachers felt adequately equipped to use Wikipedia post-training, both within and outside the classroom setting? Sustainable Engagement and Impact: Objective: Understand the long-term implications of the program concerning educator engagement and classroom outcomes. Questions: Which strategies were most successful in retaining educators within the Wikimedia community? What is the observable impact on student engagement and the improvement of media and information literacy skills post-program implementation? How can we measure the lasting effects of the program on teachers' consistent usage of Wikipedia as an educational tool?

Awareness, Perception, and Readiness: 1. Are the teachers familiar with the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Framework?

  - Some of the participants were familiar and others had few questions.

2. Do they recognize and value Wikipedia as an Open Education Resource?

  - Yes, They understood that Wikipedia is free for all and can be used as a teaching tool.

3. What are their perceptions of Wikipedia about classroom education? How does this perception influence their readiness and enthusiasm to incorporate Wikipedia into their curriculum?

  - A lot of the participants were not familiar with Wikipedia and were not aware they could edit or contribute to Wikipedia. And a lot of the participants had the misconception that Wikipedia is unreliable because anyone can edit it, This encouraged them to learn how they could contribute to Wikipedia and learn how to make it a useful tool in the classroom.

Training Effectiveness and Implementation: 1. Were the training materials clear and comprehensive?

  - According to the feedback the materials and resources were clear and comprehensive

2. Did the modules help teachers understand the practicality of incorporating Wikipedia in the classroom?

  - Yes

3. How well did the training program align with the time commitments and structural expectations of the teachers?

  - The teachers were given the option to choose the best days with which they could attend the training, however, some of the schools had activities which they could not put aside and this hindered their attendance.

4. How many teachers felt adequately equipped to use Wikipedia post-training, both within and outside the classroom setting?

  - More than half of the participants understood the training and were able to practice what was taught.

Sustainable Engagement and Impact: 1. Which strategies were most successful in retaining educators within the Wikimedia community?

  - Mentorship: The teachers were eager to learn from the past participants and they were excited to learn from them.

2. What is the observable impact on student engagement and the improvement of media and information literacy skills post-program implementation?

  - The teachers were eager to teach their students what they had learnt from the program.

3. How can we measure the lasting effects of the program on teachers' consistent usage of Wikipedia as an educational tool?

  - One of the ways to measure and encourage teachers to use Wikipedia as an educational tool is to allow the teachers to pass down the knowledge gotten from Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program to their schools and students.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Yes, we had challenges creating accounts for some of the new participants due to IP address issues which affected adding the participants to the dashboard and some of the school had activities and couldn't fully participate in the program.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We plan to write blog posts and share the report of the project with the community.
