  • Event Launch and Training: we kick started the event by introducing our community members to the Wiki Loves Africa 2024 edition. We targeted 50 and end up training 60 participants in the launching session. The participants were trained on how to upload images on Wikimedia Commons and how to assign them to the designated proper categories.
  • Photowalks: the team of organizers of this local WLA campaign embarked on photowalks were we travelled across northeastern states including Borno, Yobe, Bauchi and Gombe states. During this tour, we were able to capture over 400 good quality, beautiful random pictures related to the 2024 theme of WLA: Africa Create.
  • Upload sessions: We met again for another physical session with the most experience editors from the community were we distributed the captured photographs among them and they used them in hands-on practical sessions with the participants especially the newly recruited ones, that way it makes it easier to upload the images during the upload sessions and also help the new participants to learn the photo upload real quick. That also helped them in building their spirits to hunt more images on their own and upload them which the team kept monitoring up to the end of the event period.

You can recall these learning questions below: 1. Our first participation of the year 2023 Wiki Loves Africa campaign was a huge success, we therefore hope to learn if we would be able to maintain such impact and whether we can achieve even more greater success this year that would be celebrated across the Wikimedia movement.

2. We hope to grade the capacity of our community to run a contest of this scale.

3. We hope to make our community members feel completely engaged and attached to the Wikimedia movement by participating in this international campaign.

1. We learned that if we can maintain our stand by keeping on organizing WLA we would be able to continue expanding our impact within our language speaking community and the northern region in general.

2. We are able to realize that our community has the strength to keep on running Wiki Loves Africa event because of the team were able to handle the event smoothly.

Yes, just when we were about to end the event and begin writing this report happened an unforeseen circumstance. We had a blackout in the northeast axis resulting from vandals as can read in this report: https://gazettengr.com/four-towers-vandalised-electricity-supply-to-gombe-yola-jalingo-affected-tcn/. This affected our report writing as there were no electricity to charge our phones and the instability caused by the action resulted in in hardships to livelihood due to scarcity of water for domestic use and the likes.
