During this contest, we've implemented several activities:

Promotion and Outreach:

Organized campaigns on our social media (facebook and telegram/whatsapp groups) to raise awareness about the contest. Collaborated with local cultural organizations, photographers and influencers to reach a wider audience.

Workshops and Training:

Conducted workshops to educate participants on how to contribute to Wikimedia Commons. Provided training sessions on photography techniques and the documentation of folklore.

Contest Facilitation:

Established a clear set of guidelines and criteria for submissions during workshops. Assisted participants to manage submissions and ensure adherence to the contest rules.

Community Engagement:

Engaged with photographers to encourage participation and collect diverse representations of Beninese folklore. Organized local events and photo walks (Ouidah, Abomey, Bohicon, ...) to facilitate the capture of folklore-related content.

Evaluation and Recognition:

Formed a jury to evaluate submissions, using Montage tool. Organized an award ceremony to recognize and reward the best contributions.

This project helped us improve our project management skills. It helps us raise awareness, meet communities, and discuss Benin's folklore. We've also worked with public authority to get accreditation to take pictures during festivals.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

People attending our meeting online had faced issues in registering on the Event page and outreach dashboard.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

After the awards ceremony, our social networks will promote the best pictures. We've also used the project learnings in the Wiki Loves Africa project, which theme this year 2024, is Africa create.
