Part 1 Understanding your work[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

For the project Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos for Telugu Wikipedia, the following implementation methodologies were adapted:

1)Collaboration 2)Inclusion

Principal Project Tasks 1) Internet allowance for volunteers - I set up a page for the requests and provided support for the volunteers, taking into account important factors like the user's contribution to the project.

2)Photo Travel: photo travel aims to create awareness about Wikimedia commons and support the users to contribute effectively to the WPWP campaign. Users who are interested in taking part in photo travel are encouraged to apply on a specific page.

3) Training and awareness events: During the course of the project, we organised 7 Training and Awareness sessions and 1 Award ceremony. We have made every attempt to participate in all the activities. While Community plans most of the programmes, we have also agreed to host the training event at the request of two nearby institutions VNR Vignana Jyoti Engineering college and VGDC College of Osmania University.

I have asked members of the community who are actively involved to host training and awareness activities at their preferred location, and I have let them know that I will be helping to organise the events.

Both online and offline, the community members actively participated in the events. Particularly, the jury members helped me by directing my efforts and encouraging me to undertake the project activities.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

The major approach I've taken in the project is to incorporate ideas from the community and suggestions from the jury members to carry out the project's activities.

My ability to quickly plan events and activities has been helpful.

In order to increase the volunteer base from underrepresented groups, I did use an inclusive strategy. I was able to attract enthusiasts from rural areas to participate in Wikimedia projects by holding offline events outside of the Hyderbad metropolis.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Strongly agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Strongly agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Strongly agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

By organising events in rural areas, I was able to engage the Gondi and Kolami tribes in conversation about the Wikimedia movement. These two are the languages used in Telangana's northern regions.

It gives me immense pleasure to share that these people have contributed to the WPWP campaign and beyond the scope, they have also started 3 new Wikimedia projects (Gondi Wikipedia, Kolami Wikipedia, Gondi Wiktionary).

Part 2: Your main learning[edit]

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

Planning the project activities for the Wikimedia/open source platform and finding community enthusiasts has been a wonderful area to learn. All the efforts from past years bring us to a well-established group of volunteers on Telugu Wikipedia and I see the need for time-to-time awareness activities to take the Wikimedia movement forward.

I have learnt to manage the project activities with support from the community, and have understood that we at Telugu speaking community need to take up more events and bring a wider audience to contribute and use the knowledge repositories that we are building.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

Nothing

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

I would like to work on Building more content related to tribal languages, languages of the World and topics of underrepresented value on Wikimedia platforms.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
