Movement Charter/Community Consultations/2022/Arabic Speaking Community Ambassadors

What Movement Strategy initiative is this draft plan supporting?

Under the banner of Ensure Equity in Decision-Making, the plan supported Movement Charter conversations and Feedback collection from the Arabic Speaking community through Movement Charter Ambassadors Program.

What activities have you completed to produce this draft plan?

Ambassadors grant aimed to get more engagement from the Arab-speaking community in the Movement Charter, Thus, We (The three Ambassadors: Ali, Donia, and Sandra) attend the sessions in this regards and organize an online one-one meeting with around 20 people from the Arabic community, having in mind the differences in Roles in Wikipedia, their sex, orientations and knowing about the Foundation.
First of all, We shared multiple posts describing the movement charter drafts on social media channels (Facebook and Telegram), plus, we published a subject on Al-Maydan in Arabic Wikipedia in this regards also, we notify the people to attend the meeting.
Thus, the Arabic speaking meeting attended by around 15 people from the Arabic community. According to this, we found ourselves accomplishing this goal to work on the next work in our schedule.
Translating Meta pages: Our team is in immediate contact to get the news, thus we divided the pages between each other using google Sheets to set the roles, then we worked on Meta. The work was done in the set time. At the same time, we contacted the people to make the interviews and started with them.
Interviews: We set the meetings online using multiple platforms such as Zoom, Google meet, FB Messenger, or other, we met excited people want to make a difference, thus the meetings were usually around an hour but there were one specific, and the sessions extended to more than three hours!
In this regard, we found that we miscalculate the time needed for the interviews where we were setting 30-40 mins, whereas the sessions were 60 long for the normal cases. On the other hand, we received very good points to improve from the community and we got more people engaged from the Arabic-speaking countries. Also, we would like to mention that there is a Kurdish community in Iraq, we worked with them also and we contacted them for having equity in decision-making for all people and societies.

Anything else you want to share about your project?

It was really an achievement to reach this number of people of the Arabic community, they felt that their opinions were heard and they were happy to share in something as important as the movement charter. So we encourage people working on the charter to keep going in their work and we are very happy to support them.
