Located in rural Michigan, we will use Art+Feminism's edit-a-thon as a way to advocate for geographical inclusivity within the cultural sector. We will provide physical and digital resources to rural residents that wish to participate in an internationally facilitated month of wikipedia editing.

Project Goal[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

Series - Two 75-minute training workshops leading up to a two-weekedit-a-thon event. The editathon will last over the course of two weeks, allowing for participants to work around their schedules in their own homes

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
This event will be advertised to the community through the following methods: (1) targeted emails to previous participants and previously identified individuals with specific interests in digital literacy and gender issues, (2) advertisement on the website of Patch & Remington, S. Ayers Art, and Flyover Art, (3) advertisement on social media (4) word-of-mouth

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

While some do, many do not. As such, we are providing mobile hot spots to allow people to work from wherever they are safely comfortable and hosting a series of trainings to teach participants best practices for research and contribution.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will continue to host online discussions, book clubs, and engagement opportunities in an attempt to continue to build our local creative community. In addition, we will conduct a survey to assess participant experience after the event.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

No. All programs will be online.

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Located in one of the state of Michigan's listed underrepresented counties in regards to art and culture, and with a poverty rate of over 20%, this program is intended to advocate for inclusivity and creative community within Cass County. The ability to host an online community-driven forum in such a rural and economically depressed county will not only allow us to reach an engaged audience, but provide a platform on which we can continue to build tech and research resources.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

We have partnered with the local Marcellus Public Library, local gallery Patch & Remington, a number of women artists and advisors that will provide tech training support, research materials, and the Marcellus Newspaper will assist in providing outreach materials.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

$800: for gas money to bring mobile hot spots and research materials to homes that are without reliable transportation (60 mile radius) $800: will provide 32 deposits for mobile hot spots, to be on loan from local libraries (ideally we could purchase mobile hot spots to allow us to continue our outreach, however, I am unsure if those are within funding parameters) $500: Wiki Education Brochure Library $60: Social media promotion $90: Advertising materials $100: misc. supplies Total costs: $2350
