Project Goal[edit]

' For the project 'My Wiki My Town" .We want to Recruit new editors .We want to get more students in the Universities and colleges interested in the Wikimedia community as to broaden information about our local towns and townships. We want to Increase skills for existing editors by writing individual articles. We want to add and improve content with newly discovered and researched land marks as well as updated photographic reference.

Project Plan[edit]

We plan to conduct a series of online edit-a-thons that focus on the history, newly discovered and unknown facts of various towns in Zambia. We want to bring people together to train as well as to update current information on Wikipedia.

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We plan to have run a a series of online edit-a-thons will engage various Universities and colleges by writing letters as well as emails to the chancellors and Principles in charge of various Tertiary institutions.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using. '>.(i)We will create Social Media pages (Facebook,twitter,instagram) (ii)We will roll out a social media campaign with the hashtag ("My Wiki My Town") (iii)We will post about our event on the Meta page (iv)We will print flyers and issue them out at various universities and colleges We have also been in regular contact with our registry from our previous Art+Feminism edit-a thon participants and they are constantly asking us when we will be having more Wiki events and edita thons. 3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

We recently ran an Art+Feminism edit-a thons and we catalogued all our participants and we will engage them via social media, direct phone calls, emails and creating a central Whatsapp group.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.

We have experienced editors namely:

•Brianchanda •Kasolo •Jason.mulikita •Francis ackson Soko •Icem4k 5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Some of the participants ran a previous Art+Feminism edit-a thon with us, as such they gained notable experience and we will be tutoring new participants via online meetings via zoom .Due to the pandemic we will offer online tutorials where participants will log in with either their laptops or smart phones to participate .We have hosted a similar edit a thon in the past and we had sessions arranged in sharing books,magazine sand newly researched material amongst the participants

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

As we have already hosted edit-a thons in the past we have a registry with our participants' phone numbers and email addresses and this helps us get feed back and we will have a running whatsapp group to enable participants to contact us on any queries they may have.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

No, all our sessions will be done online.

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Yes, we do plan to host a competition on the most improved and added content by a participant so as to encourage participants to edit as much information as they possibly can to help grow our Wikipedia community.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

We have:

•laptops •smart phones •routers the project facilitator will be Gertrude Namitala and Muchinda Chileka will act as the project Co-Facilitator.

1.Transport for organizers to deliver letters/and laptops/smart phones to various institutions= $500 2.Branded Pens/ notepads with WIKIPEDIA Logo to give away at event and to promote it = $300 3.Internet =$500 4.Gift card for prizes to the most active participants (Grocery gift cards)= US 200 Our 1st prize voucher will be US 100 the second prize will be US 60 and our third prize will be US 40 So, In total we plan to give out 3 Gift cards. 5Thank you cards for participants=$200
