Project Goal[edit]

Briefly explain what are you trying to accomplish with this project, or what do you expect will change as a result of this grant. Example goals include, "recruit new editors", "add high quality content", or "train existing editors on a specific skill".

Make Wikipedia more useful and accessible for readers.

There is vast knowledge on Wikipedia but its not easily accessible when needed. For example, if a person is visiting Cologne in Germany and is in the Cologne Cathedral, there could be various different statues there with a lot of details buried in a Wikipedia article, locating this knowledge needs googling (which sometimes may not suffice even). In other tourist places like Rajasthan, India there are various guides who help out users by sharing some knowledge (often wrong, misleading or just rumours). If there were a direct linking of each of these objects (statues, etc) with the relevant text on wikipedia the information could be directly accessible. This can be done using a QR code based app, where the QR code is attached near the object and on scanning via the mobile app the relevant text from wikipedia would directly show up.

If the above scheme works out it could also result in creation of quality content from associated parties.

This concept can also be applied to other relevant places where Wikipedia has useful data. Eg In medicines regarding various chemical substances, in books regarding expanding knowledge on various concepts, etc

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

Primarily coding and deploying in a few places in Bangalore.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

Yet to do!

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

Will have the basic app version ready. Will interact with various wikipedia communities to help deploy QR stickers.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

  1. Number of total participants
  2. Number of articles created or improved (if applicable)
