Notre Dame English Club/Securing robustness and sustainable growth of NDEC WERT
NDEC will hire third-party skill development experts and trainers and train its wikimedia team to ensure robustness and sustainable leadership through in-person sessions. Around 50 members will be trained under four categories - 1. Content creation (including creative writing, photo & video editing & social media marketing) 2. Finance & accounting (The knowledge needed to manage the financial resource of the organization) 3. Presentation (Powerpoint training particularly, as it is a crucial thing for everyone. If we have powerpoint experts, they can work as a backup of our graphics team and thus can increase robustness) & 4. Leadership.

Project Goal[edit]

What will be the outputs of your project and how will those outputs contribute to advancing a specific Movement Strategy Initiative

What specific Movement Strategy Initiative does your project focus on and why? Please select one of the initiatives described here
Our project focuses on Initiative 1. Systematic approach to improve satisfaction and productivity, Initiative 2. Funding for Underrepresented Communities and Initiative 32. Leadership Development Plan.
Notre Dame English Club (NDEC) is the only student organization engaged in Wikimedia Movement in the educational institutions of Bangladesh. NDEC Wikipedia Editorial and Research Team (NDEC WERT) is a specialized team of this extra-curricular organization responsible for the Wikimedia and open knowledge aspects of the club. We have plans to initiate similar Wikimedia student groups/ teams/ clubs in Bangladesh using our experience and knowledge. We also have the intention to organize Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program in Bangladesh. We have one of the 29 globally recognized certified trainers in our team.
To carry out these heavy-weight future plans, Notre Dame English Club must ensure robustness and sustainable leadership for its Wikimedia team now. Otherwise, there's always a chance of "burning out" and dissolution due to a lack of skilled human resources and leadership.

Project Background[edit]

When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
We hope to start the project next July and end it before next December.
Where will your project activities be happening?
The project activities i.e. the training will take place at Notre Dame College, Dhaka or at our partner training organization's facilities. Notre Dame English Club will take care of the venue and transportation issues.
Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
We are not collaborating with any Wikimedia entity for this particular project. We will hire third-party trainers who professionally provide such training. Under the four categories, we'll work with four or fewer expert individuals or organizations or institutions and their main goal will be to prepare a skilled workforce for NDEC in these four categories.
What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
It's been almost a year till the specialized Wikimedia team of NDEC has been formed. Now it's important to create robustness and sustainable leadership to ensure that the team doesn't stop its operations suddenly. We're facing having skill shortage in different areas of our works and this is increasing day by day.
To solve this lack of robustness and lack of leadership issues, we will hire local trainers and organize an intensive training program for our team. Once they're equipped with necessary tools and knowledge, we'll combine them with our experience and store and the knowledge for other wikimedia entities around the globe.
Does this project aim to apply one of the examples shared in the call for grants and if so which one?
No, the project isn't similar to any of the examples.

Project Activities[edit]

What specific activities will be carried out during this project? Please describe the specific activities that will be carried out during this project.
How do you intend to keep communities updated on the progress and outcomes of the project? Please add the names or usernames of these individuals responsible for updating the community
Who will be responsible for delivering on this project and what are their roles and responsibilities?

Additional information[edit]

If your activities include community discussions, what is your plan for ensuring that the conversations are productive? Provide a link to a Friendly Space Policy or UCoC that will be implemented to support these discussions.
We will arrange a one-hour online discussion with the Bangla Wikipedia (This project covers the geographical area of Bangladesh, where the project will take place) community, where General friendly space policy for Wikimedia events will be followed. Besides, we will inform the Bangla Wikipedia community through a Village Pump message, where Bangla Wikipedia's basic policies will be followed and in critical cases, we'll take help from WMF's trust & safety team.
If your activities include the use of paid online tools, please describe what tools these are and how you intend to use them.
No, our project doesn't include any kind of online tools. In some cases, we may need to use online meeting platforms like Zoom or Google Meet, where we'll follow the General Friendly Space policy and costs to arrange the online meetings will be paid by Notre Dame English Club.
Do your activities include the translation of materials, and if so, in what languages will the translation be done? Please include details of those responsible for making the translations.
No, our activities doesn't include any sort of translated materials because, 1. The training will be organized by native Bangla speakers and most of the activities will take place in Bangla & 2. If any of the activities needs English, our trainees are capable to communicate using English.
Are there any other details you would like to share? Consider providing rationale, research or community discussion outputs, and any other similar information, that will give more context on your proposed project.
  1. According to Movement Learning and Leadership Development framework's "Engagement Taxonomy", the team has only one member with Expanding Engagement, 3/4 members with Emerging Engagement and 10-12 members with Nascent Engagement. We plan to have at least 5 members with Expanding Engagement, 10 members with Emerging Engagement and 20 members with Nascent Engagement roughly.

Outcomes[edit]

After your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.

In this report, you will be asked to:

  • Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or Wikimedia page
  • Describe what activities supported the development of the plan
  • Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
  • Report on how your funding was spent

Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:

  • What movement strategy initiative or goal are you addressing?
  • What activities will you be doing to address that initiative?
  • What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
  • How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?

To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:

Please confirm below that you will be able to prepare a draft implementation plan document by the end of your grant:

  • ...

Optionally, you are welcome to include other information you'd like to share around participation and representation in your activities. Please include any additional outcomes you would like to report on below:
