Project Goal[edit]

Choose one or more of the following goals. You can add or delete goals as needed.

  1. Recruit new editors
  2. Increase awareness for information literacy components such as verifiable sources and fact-based writing
  3. Add or improve content

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We will be conducting one editathon focusing on women artists.

2. How will you let your community know about the event? Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

As part of a community college, we will be using the in-house marketing procedures, including Facebook, posting fliers on campus, and e-mail blasts to let students, staff, and faculty know about the event. We have also created an event on the Art+Feminism page to help generate interest.

3. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event?

Not significant experience, but LisaLiteracyLady has gone through self-led training with Art+Feminism and participated in an editathon.

4. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

We will be hosting the event in the computer lab attached to the library, so participants do not need to bring anything with them. We are also providing quality resources for students to access during editing.

5. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

A follow-up e-mail will be sent to all participants to encourage continued editing. In addition, we've started to collaborate with two faculty members in an effort for the conversation to continue after the event. We are also considering hosting more events throughout the year with different focus areas as they relate to our college curriculum.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Tillamook Bay Community College is the smallest college in Oregon, but we strive to create experiences and opportunities for our students that reach beyond our rural community. This project is one that hasn't been done in our community before and we'd love to be able to initiate conversations that can become community-wide.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events 1
  2. Number of participants 5
  3. Number of new editors 3
  4. Number of of articles created or improved 10
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)

Resources[edit]

What resources do you have? Include information on who is organizing the project, what they will do, and if you will receive support from anywhere else (in-kind donations or additional funding).

We have one library staff member with some editing experience and we will have one other staff member available to answer questions. We are also using the training provided by Art+Feminism and attended a similar event to get hands-on experience.

What resources do you need? For your funding request, list bullet points for each expense and include a total amount.

  1. Food & Drink $75
  2. Supplies (name tags, balloons, printing) $50
