Goals
[edit]All of the project's goals were exceeded. We succeeded in raising awareness of free licences among photographers in Greece (at least for those who participated) and recruited some of them as new contributors to Wikimedia Commons. We also increased local media coverage about Wikimedia projects through national news outlets. From the organizational side, the project run ok based on last years experience, one more wikimedian was trained as a coordinator, previous organizers changed roles to disseminate knowledge and increase the bus factor.
We also succeeded improving the quality of the already existing articles related to the pictures. Also many Nature Protected Areas of Greece were covered for first time with photos from the competition. Generally we succeeded in increasing the number of freely licensed images of Greek nature, in raising awareness of natural heritage through the photographs uploaded during the competition, and improving the quality of the content on Wikimedia projects by providing images to existing articles.
It seems ackward to say, but probably the quarantine in those early stages of the pandemic led people to visit outside areas giving them the chance to take more photos, and then upload from home.
