Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

The Embassy of Sweden in Maputo will organise two sessions in Maputo. One session for female journalists working in state and private media outlets and another for female activists from selected civil society organisations in Mozambique.
The Embassy is planning to organise a third session in another province of Mozambique, Niassa, where the focus will be on increasing the representation of historical Mozambican women on Wikipedia.
An exhibition showcasing all the Mozambican women whose profiles were added on Wikipedia will also be held at a Mall in Maputo and Matola.

The Embassy will raise awareness of these activities through its website, social media platforms and press releases in the local media.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

There is no existing community of Wikimedians in Mozambique that we know of.

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

We will have introduced female Journalists & Students to Wikipedia. We will monitor their editing activitity for atleast 3 months post event, to see if they continue to edit.
We will run a photo-exhibition in Maputo of female biographies of Mozambican citizens that have been entered into Wikipedia during the last 2 WikiGAP sessions. We will track page view and number of visitors engaged by the exhibition.
After the event, we will encourage participants to create a local Wikimedia Editors’ network in Mozambique and use WhatsApp as a platform to exchange information and remain in contact. We will also organise lunches at least once a year with the most active editors.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

  2. Number of articles created or improved (if applicable): 50
  3. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable): 25
