  • With a lot of team effort we have met not only our goals but also we have achieved a lot more than expected.
  • To conclude how the project went on we have ensured the participant's confidence levels were improved. We are happy that Wikimedia hackathon awareness was reached among the rural people in and around Villupuram.
  • Knowledge sharing among the participants was really great and we have received a large number of contributions from the new beginners.
  • We have successfully developed the below mentioned 4 tools as part of this Wikimedia hackathon,
  1. Quick Wiktionary
  2. SpotWikiEdit
  3. Bulk Wiki Downloader
  4. Bulk Wiktionary Creator

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

What worked well?[edit]

  • The Zeroth Day event helped the new participants to understand the Wikimedia Hackathon in detail.
  • The best part of this event was a team effort which made us work with each other and share their opinion on the tool they have worked on. Knowledge sharing was a great experience for each one of us who participated in this event.
  • Team effort was succeeded with the help of below patterns used among the list of participants,
  1. At the first step we had splitted the candidate into a few teams based on technologies along with volunteers and co-volunteers.
  2. Each team has a combination of new beginners and well experienced developers.
  3. Crazy names were chosen by the team folks for the respective teams.
  4. Developed tools were showcased among the teams.
  5. Also shared the challenges faced during the project development and how they overcame possible solutions.
  • Global showcase meeting at the end of the event really helped us to get to know the other point of observations on the projects we have worked on and that is giving more different views to improve us in the future.
  • Around 100+ candidates registered for this event. From the total count, we have selected 27 candidates. But the registered count proved that many people were very much interested to attend the event and contribute themselves.

What did not work so well?[edit]

Lack of time was a minor concern from our side because few participants are very new to this hackathon event so we felt it would be better if the event days are extended.

What would you do differently next time?[edit]

Next time, we will create a Wikimedia hackathon vibe around the district by conducting many pre events such as small competitions for schools and mid level competitions for college students with the Wikimedia theme. So that we can attain a massive crowd of contributors for hackathon and we can bring more innovative and must needed tools for Wikimedia.
