Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
The outreach to the new editors brought interest of them in Wikipedia, and some of them showed their interest and cooperation to train their students about the Wikipedia, soon after the educational institutions (Colleges/Universities) holidays we have planned to reach to their located institutes and run-on-site editthons, training.
  • What did not work so well?

We have laid a foundation-stone, and we very well learned that initially in every goal people's participation is always short, but we are firmly determined to make awareness among Pakitani youth especially Sindhi youth about Sindhi Wikipedia, and for this objectives we are running Sindhi Wikipedia Facebook page and other FB groups, and other social sites to propagate about Wikipedia, and its sister projects. We did a talked Wikimedians in Pakistan through mobile phone calls, Live video streaming via Facebook, and other social sites such as Goolge+, LinkedIn, but the ratio of the participants was disappointing, Some people who ensured their participation, later on showed excuses. We realized that educational institutes, colleges, libraries, and universities are the best places to make aware the youth about the Wikipedia, where their participation will be a boost for our goals.

  • What would you do differently next time?

Next time; we will do such events in educational institutes.

  • We will run a campaign through social media asking educational institutes students to participate in the Wikipedia.
  • We will do awareness workshops in universities, colleges and libraries (one of the private educational college at Jacobabad, Sindh has ensured us fully support for the participants and other facilities including a dedicated computer lab and students to contribute on Wikipedia for this they have asked us to train them).
