Wiki Loves Folklore 2023 in Pakistan

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Local

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Pakistan has a very rich cultural heritage, but the amount of freely licensed photos of listed cultural heritage in Pakistan on commons is still low, so I want to bring the change in Pakistan that will eventually lead people to be aware about Wikipedia and it's sister projects, especially WikiLoves Folklore. I'll train and encourage people to participate in Wikiloves Folklore to document their culture heritage on Wiki commons.

The main problems or challenges, which I would like to solve is to help and guide people by providing them awareness and training to make them enable to and encouraging them to participate in Wikipedia and it's sister projects. There is a lot of need to encourage people by providing them awareness about Wikipedia and it's sister projects because a very few people from Pakistan contribute to Wikipedia and it's sister projects. By this proposal and by this strategy I would like to share my knowledge and skills with my fellow Wikimedians and other people to bring them to Wikimedia movement cause and by encouraging them to participate in the movement of free knowledge platform like Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons to document their rich cultural heritage on Wiki Commons.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

This proposal is important, because I intends to bring the wider change in Pakistan related to Wikipedia and it's sister projects. If this proposal is implemented, I hope and I'm sure that people in Pakistan will be positively affected by this proposal, and training, awareness provided them through this proposal by me and my team members. Recruit newcomers : We will try to do the event in Hyderabad in order to target new communities, because Hyderabad, Sindh has become the hub of diverse culture of Pakistan and almost all people living in Sindh or Pakistan are living in this city. The in-person event will take place in Hyderabad a rich cultural city whose inhabitants are very attached to their traditions and are glad to share it to the world. in addition to that offering prizes will encourage photographers to participate. This approach proved its efficiency in the previous contests. Trainings / Editathons: I will carry out series of trainings and editathons on how to make good picures and how to upload them on Commons. Building the capacity of the community members: it is important to acquaint the participants with the policy and interface of the wikimedia projects, an experienced wikimedian will lead the training of the photographers.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Before the next Wikiloves Folklore international event, we will be making awareness through social media and in February 2024 with the objective to protect the intangible cultural heritage of Pakistan, we will promote the event via Print and electronic media and social media focusing on topics of folklores and folk culture in Pakistan, in which folk dance, traditional cuisines, clothing, music, games and sports, seasonal events, calendar customs will be focused and people will be encouraged to participate in the contest to upload media (pictures, videos, audio files) to Wikimedia commons and win prizes. The in-person event will take place in Hyderabad: A photowalk in Sindh museum will be organised as well as an exposition of a set of traditional meals to be photographed by participants; In the afternoon a workshop to introduce photographers to wikimedia projects and wikicommons by providing them a training and awareness about the Wikipedia and its sister projects. Soon after the event: the jury (a panel of 3 people from mixed backgrounds) will judge photos in several rounds. after that a closing ceremony and an exhibition of the 10 best photos of the contest will be held in Hyderabad. There's a rich cultural heritage in Pakistan and a diverse culture of Pakistan and people celebrate their culture through various activities such as Sindhi culture and Sindhi cultural day and other cultures of Pakistan. I assume that if they're provided with this knowledge through this proposal they would like to contribute to Wikipedia and it's sister projects especially in Wikiloves Folklore and they'll come forward to contribute to sum of all human knowledge, free knowledge platform such as Wikipedia. People in Pakistan are really unaware of that and that's why I'm proposing this proposal to be implemented to bring the positive change in the masses. Pakistan has a great scope to come forward and to take the seat in the free knowledge platform Wikipedia.
