Hi JogiAsad, thanks for your report on your workshop and meetup. I have a few questions about your report:

  • Just to clarify, how many total events were run? It looks there was a training session, but whether this was separate from the meetup or not is unclear to me.
Total one event was run, comprising meetup, information & training, The training was done after meetup.
  • Congratulations on meeting your training goals, and thanks for providing some videos from the session. I enjoyed watching them! Can you describe what kind of training was provided to participants? Did you get a sense of what they wanted to learn about?
The training was provided about, creating acfount, how to edit, update, create new articles, inserting references, categories, infoboxes, templates, interwikilinks.
  • Could you provide a link to a list of the 50 articles that were created or improved? It's OK if some of them are still being drafted in user sandboxes. The participants wanted to learn all above.
  • I'm sorry to hear that turnout was lower than you expected, but this will happen sometimes. I think working within institutions and using social media to remind folks about your events can be helpful.
Indeed good suggestion using social media, which we did as well, and The link to a list of editthon's articles is provided in outcome section of the report page, the editthon's articles & other articles totaling 50 articles created/updated, expanded.
We acknowledge turnout was very poor than expected, inspite of our Social media campaign & invitations. We'll Soon get better response/outcome in next events.
  • In terms of your remaining funds (65180 PKR), if you would like to reallocate the remaining funds on additional workshops with students, we will require another Rapid Grant request detailing how these funds are to be used in the next 21 days (by July 28th), as most of the funds were not used in this grant. Otherwise, we will need you to return the funds to the Wikimedia Foundation.
The remaining funds; we'll requewt new Rapid Grant ASAp the institutions (universities) summer vacations ends till 1st week of August 2017.

Please respond to the above questions, and submit a new Rapid Grant request when you are able. Congratulations on a successful event and training for new editors. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:57, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I JethroBT (WMF), MJue (WMF), AWang (WMF), Mouryan, Titodutta, Hindustanilanguage, Satdeep Gill, Arif80s, Aziz Kingrani, (Indus Asia IA), مھتاب احمد, Ferdous, Good Morning and have a nice day, Dear Thanks for your patience, cooperation and support for our cause "Wikipedia & Sindhi Wikipedia Awareness Workshops in Sindh (Pakistan)", with your support we were able to conduct a Wikipedia & Sindhi Wkipedia Awareness Workshop in Karachi, Sindh, it was a totally first ever and a new experience for us (especially for me) to organise such an event first time in the history of Sindh, that Wikipedians/Wikimedians from Sindh organised that event, we did every possible communication way to invite Wikipedians from All over Pakistan especially Sindhi Wikipedians including common Public to attend it and get knowledge about Wikipedia and usage into the education, research and the participants were really inspired and learned new things about the Wikipedia. The next step for us was to organise series of workshops for which we had applied for a new grant from the existing unspent grant amount; now at the moment I (the individual grantee and organizer of Wikipedia Workshops) postpone these Wikipedia Workshops due to the reason of my technical and financial issues, and the other main issue is that such an event organising is not a job of a single individual its a team work (despite of that fact, however, the all task for the Wikipedia Workshop in Karachi on 24th May 2017 were performed soly by me), so therefore my team members are not cooperating with me due to their job/personal excuses, and I have been left alone, however inspite of this recently I went to Jacobabad to a local private College sponsored by the college authorities and where I did a Wikipedia Awareness Workshop on July 2017, the news of that workshop was reported in Dawn TV, and Sindh TV News, and I was single person who did lectured about the Wikipedia and ran a training sessions, there were two sessions , first in Morning was a session for female students and lady teachers those participants were 200, and second session was done in evening for the male students and male teachers by me, they learnt about researching, study purpose, and how to contribute on Wikipedia, the students were satisfied, I'll ask the TV reporters to provide e the link to their news report about my Wikipedia workshop in Jacobabad, Sindh, ASAP. However, at the moment I've become a sole person and I withdraw/postpone the series of Wikipedia workshops, due to my financial, technical (I've no laptop) problems and will so reapply for the grant with cooperation with our Pakistani Wikipedians and postpone these series of workshops and will soon organise it in Pakistan, So therefore I request before you and ask , I'm the person who enthusiastically working for the Wikipedia and its awareness among the people of Pakistan. I worked in my office free on contributing on Wikipedia, and apparen I lost my job, Dear Sir, I've learnt that WMF grants/give Laptop to the Wikipedians (such Laptops have been also given in India to the Wikipedians). I want to continue my contribution on Wikioedia and Wikimedia sister projects, but at the moment have not Laptop, Can't Wikmedia Foundation give me a laptop? , or if you could please allow me to utilize the remaining grant amount to get/buy a laptop for me, so I could resolve my technical problem which is hindering into my contribution on Wikipedia?..HERE are my contributions via xTool Sindhi Wikipedia, English Wikipedia, Urdu Wikipedia, Punjabi Wikipedia excluding other WMF Wikis.JogiAsad (talk) 02:22, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from AWang (WMF)[edit]

Hi JogiAsad. Congrats on organizing the first Wikipedia & Sindhi Wkipedia Awareness Workshop in Karachi! We are sorry to hear that the community does not have the capacity to organize additional events and that you have been continuing to do outreach by yourself. Your dedication to furthering the Wikimedia mission is very impressive and we appreciate everything you have done to organize events, introduce the Wikimedia projects, and expand awareness. However, we also do not want these activities to be a drain on your personal and financial resources. It is important to have partners that can share in the organizing and all the successes and challenges that these events bring. If you cannot continue to organize events in the near future because you do not have any help, we advise you to return the remaining funds. When others in your community are free again to help, you can apply for another grant. Please return the funds according the the instructions here.

In general, we do not fund personal equipment requests. You can read more about that in our Funding Guidelines here. However, our team is running a Hardware Donation Program where you can apply for a used laptop from the Wikimedia Foundation. Please follow the link to read more about the program and apply.

Once you have sent the funds, please send us an email so we can look out for it in our account. Thank you, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 18:20, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
