Project Goal[edit]

This project will use Wikipedia as a community forum and publication channel for curating and delivering health information to people in DR Congo, in languages of lingala-Shawili-Kikongo-Tshiluba, and in partnership with stakeholder communities. How ? By translating the informations from the global initiative wikiproject Medecine.

Project Plan[edit]

This project will publish health information to Wikipedia in partnership with relevant existing community organizations which already have established processes for translating content from English into the languages of Congo. This consultation through various specialized Wikimedia community organizations will ensure that throughout the process the activities of this project elevate the participation of stakeholder communities to accomplish the goal of sharing health information in Wikipedia. People in congo demand access to health informations and we expect that providing such information in Congoleses languages through Wikipedia will have comparable audience engagement to English and French Wikipedia, in proportion to Congoleses language internet use.

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing?

1)In order to deliver quality health content in Congoleses languages, we would begin by using the existing topic prioritization process established by Wiki Project Med's Translation Task Force to select the English Wikipedia medical content which we translate to languages of Congo. That process seeks to deliver the health information which is most relevant for audiences in Congo, to the most people, with the highest quality information which already has gone through Wikipedia's English language quality control process. The translation process includes staging text for stakeholder evaluation, translating it in a way that similarly invites comment, and complying with existing Wikimedia community processes for stakeholder participation. Once content is publicly available and after three months, a typical amount of time to collect Wikipedia user response, we will measure and report the quality of the content and its associated impacts using native Wikipedia measurement tools which report the Wikimedia suite of communication metrics, including pageviews, editor engagement, and any user comments.

2)Doing Digital workshop on how to create articles in wikipedia, also all the other possibilities ( wikimedia commons, mediawiki, wikibooks, wikinews etc...).

3)Create pages on socials medias and animate information on the wikiproject with help of a community manager.

How will you let others in your community know about your project (please provide links to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions)? Why are you targeting a specific audience?

It's planned to use Social media (Linkedlin, Facebook, Instagram, Youtube), Local Radio, the specific audience targeted are Health care's professionnals, students, local institutions and general public .

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

To give access to knowledge in congoleses languages to public and professionnals, to be informed on crucial informations and have the chance to contribute. Many Congoleses citizens may have access to Internet but no immediate access to physicians and healthcare facilities—thus, access to basic health information can save lives. For example, diarrheal disease is a leading cause of death in children in Congo and many developing countries, where many parents incorrectly believe that withholding water is a treatment. Access to a simple Wikipedia article about diarrhea enables the teaching and dissemination of simple consumer health information—treating diarrhea with water—that can have lifesaving effects on vulnerable populations..

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more specific to your project:

  1. Number of total participants 80
  2. Number of articles created or improved 150
  3. Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (if applicable)
  4. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects (if applicable)
There is 4 important things who let us know if we met the goals :

1)That people know & understand the project 2)That people go on the project's page 3)The numbers of contributions 4) The Sustainability of the project

We will follow the audiences of the social Median the wikiproject's, also we planned to create public survey to get their feedback on experience, (is it useful or not,how the page was useful, need for training etc...)
