Welcome to this project's midpoint report! This report shares progress and learning from the grantee's first 3 months.

This year our main task has been to make known about the contest to different institutions, public and private, for their better inclusion in the cultural agendas of these places. So, the main activity has been the dissemination of the event nation wide. The contest in its 2017 edition left us fewer photographs compared to the previous edition but also left us a greater and new participation of people. We believe that from now on we will try to carry out the photographic exhibition after the month of April, which is the start date of the school and university academic year in Peru, or depending of have a nice or important place where we can do it. We planned this part of our work focused on opened spaces to meet and share the WLM experience with artistics and heritage protective collectives, in Lima and in other cities of Perú.

Methods and activities[edit]

How have you setup your project, and what work has been completed so far?

Describe how you've setup your experiment or pilot, sharing your key focuses so far and including links to any background research or past learning that has guided your decisions. List and describe the activities you've undertaken as part of your project to this point.

We organized this part of our work focuzed in mettings to share WLM experiencies and potentials to some citizen's collectives and governamental officers of heritages offices in Perú. With they we shared some wlm spread materials.

Activities performed: Poster printing and explanatory material about the WLM. Trips to the interior of the country for the dissemination and awareness of activities related to the cultural heritage of Peru and its inclusion in the wikimedia repositories as a strategy for their protection and for citizen participation. Sharing the experience of Wiki Loves Monuments in Peru.

In Lima. Meetings with the management team of the Mateo Salado archaeological complex, the OpenStreetMap Peru community, Salvemos las Huacas and other collectives. In order to make an editaton on the Mateo Salado Complex, place that was the site of the last exhibition and on which we gathered diverse multimedia material.

In Lima we can organized some mettings and coordinations with the instagram community in Peru, with they we can realized how is that we can propose them some activities. The most important way is printing fotos, or editing some publications with the fotos from WLM here.

Trip to Cajarmarca

Although it was not possible to hold meetings with the public authorities of this place, it was possible to initiate links for future work with people who work on the cultural agenda of this city.

Trip to Iquitos

In this city meetings were also held with the authorities that manage the cultural part from the public authorities and proposed more activities and an exhibition to be held in the halls of some public or private institutions. In this place, we have a meeting with some researchers from IIAP (Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía del Perú) and with them we explore some activities in the future, about and with amazonian peoples.

Trip to Arequipa

Meetings were held with those responsible for cultural management of the Municipality of Arequipa, they also proposed the realization of more activities with these authorities and the realization of a photographic exhibition on Wiki Loves Monuments.

Trip to Puno

In the city of Puno, meetings were held with members of the cultural collectives of that place, was usefull to include in our map, some organizations and specials dates, like the Candelaria celebrations and some sikuri’s groups.

Trip to Cusco

One member of the our jury is from Cusco. There is the possibility to make an exhibition of the winning photographs there, at the same time there is also a possibility to carry out activities related to the collection of data related to cultural heritage of Peru. Especially archaeological.

Midpoint outcomes[edit]

What are the results of your project or any experiments you’ve worked on so far?

Please discuss anything you have created or changed (organized, built, grown, etc) as a result of your project to date.

  • We participate in several meetings and networks about heritage and cultural promotion.
  • We have initial meetings with governamental officer from heritage office in Lima, Cusco and Arequipa.

Please take some time to update the table in your project finances page. Check that you’ve listed all approved and actual expenditures as instructed. If there are differences between the planned and actual use of funds, please use the column provided there to explain them.

Then, answer the following question here: Have you spent your funds according to plan so far? Please briefly describe any major changes to budget or expenditures that you anticipate for the second half of your project.

Expenses incurred: 5 travels for 1600 USD, in our project we planing visit 4 regions but we are in capacity to arrive to 5 regions. In each place we develop meetings and activities for 1 week at least. In print posters and postals invitations (print and shipping) 500 posters and 500 invitations letters x 600

The best thing about trying something new is that you learn from it. We want to follow in your footsteps and learn along with you, and we want to know that you are taking enough risks to learn something really interesting! Please use the below sections to describe what is working and what you plan to change for the second half of your project.

We've learn that we need more and better spread material, like books or some publication like it, that contain all the photos that we have since our first WLM edition, in this publication we need to give to photograohers a special space to promote its work and their contribution to WLM. For press or Heritage Institutions this kind of publications is more usefull and serious than afiches or letters invitations.

In the same time, we learn that our gobernment have betters ears in others cities than Lima, in Cusco or Arequipa, for example, we have very good response from officers, but we don’t have permanent work with they in their cities, it was common that they ask to us for organize others activities like editatons or photowalks.

What are the challenges[edit]

What challenges or obstacles have you encountered? What will you do differently going forward? Please list these as short bullet points.

  • In a first moment one obstacle was the less attention from Culture Ministry, but this is changing
  • Other obstacle was the ausence of possibility to have a some long time to work in other cities.
  • The very big obstacle was the floods this year, all the attentions, obviously was focused on this terrible problem.

What is working well[edit]

What have you found works best so far? To help spread successful strategies so that they can be of use to others in the movement, rather than writing lots of text here, we'd like you to share your finding in the form of a link to a learning pattern.

This was very well, very important to arrive to new people in many parts of the country, to involve they in our process and share with they pour experience and comming plans. Sadly, we cant finished but we have very important impuls about our achieved goals this experience. We have now the attention of our Culture Minsitry and some local gobernments in Cusco and Arequipa especially.

In the same time, we have the base knoledge to start our WLM 2019 with more time to afine and strengthen the links with some collectives and institutions, to do this we need a nice publications to share with they.
