Proposed participation

[edit]

I've been contributing to Wikipedia and its sister projects since December 2014, and have contributed to many quality articles on English Wikipedia since then. I am presently serving as a member of the Executive Committee of Wikimedia India, as a coordinator of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia, and as a coordinator for partnerships for The Wikipedia Library. I have also been extensively involved in outreach activities as well.

Celtic Knot 2018 is language conference focusing on supporting Celtic & Indigenous Languages, that has been proposed for funding as a part for Round 2 2017-2018 schedule of Conference and Event Grants. The conference will be organized in collaboration between the National Library of Wales and Wikimedia UK. The objective is the coming together of people working to support language communities in the same room at same time; strengthening the bonds into a 'knot' and leading into action. Attendees can expect to learn about and discuss innovative approaches to open education, open knowledge and open data that support and grow language communities.[lower-alpha 1]

Goal and expected impact

[edit]

I'll be leading two sessions at the conference.[lower-alpha 2] The first session is "The Wikipedia Library – Introduction and steps to setup a local branch". This will let the participating communities to consider setting up a local branch of TWL. Doing so will improve the community's access to paywalled sources, and eventually improve references on Wikimedia projects of the language. The second session is "Best practices of on-Wiki collaborations (WikiProjects)". WikiProjects play a very crucial role in improving the content around a particular area. This will be useful for the participants to learn from some of the most successful WikiProjects, and implement such best practices in their language Wikis.

Notes

[edit]
  1. Though the conference is a Wikimedia event, the conference organizers will not be able to fund my trip as a part of the Conference and Event Grants proposal for the conference. So I had to resort to TPS.
  2. Both the proposals have been accepted. The mail thread confirming the acceptance of proposed sessions by the organizers has been mailed.
