Proposed participation

[edit]

As member of the WMUG Wikimedistas de Colombia I work to empower indigenous communities in Colombia and engage those communities in our Movement. I attended two gatherings in Colombia as member of the Wikimedistas de Colombia: a national meeting in Bogotá and a regional one in Cajibío, Cauca. My work with indigeous speakers was shared in the Wikimedia Blog and mentioned in the Wikimedia Foundation metrics and activities meeting from April (minute 31:35).

As part of my work, there are two Wikipedias in the Incubator, Nasa Yuwe (code: pbb) and Namtrik (code: gum). I also meet persons like Eddie Ávila, Leonardi and Amir E. Aharoni. With some of them I work and receive support, with all of them I shared my work and learn of their experiences. I do believe that engage communities with minoritized and/or indigenous languages fit with the Mission of the WMF and it is one of the key points on what we can do as a Movement and a group to be an actually international and multilingual movement to 2030.

Goal and expected impact

[edit]

I expect to learn how to build language confidence, engage language communities and preserve their cultural heritage via Wikimedia projects. I'm planing also to attend the satellite events before and after the main event. In that way I want to replicate what I learn to the development of projects here in Colombia, and share that with my community and even with other groups that are related to us like the members of Iberocoop or Rising Voices.

Budget breakdown

[edit]
  • Travel (round trip airfare from Cali to Edinburgh): USD 2070 aprox
  • Registration: 33 USD (as I'm a student)
  • Accommodation: USD 80 per night x 4 nights (3th, 4th, 5th, 6th) = USD 320
  • Visa fees: Application 120 USD + Visa Application Centre in Cali 74 USD = 194 USD

Other instructions

[edit]

I prefer that the WMF book the flight and the accommodation. Also to direct pay for the registration. In that way we can maximize the funds and prevent to lose money through sends, taxes or commissions. I would need to receive the money to pay the visa fees.

Endorsements

The fact that a colombian can be part of this events give us the opportunity to share knowledge and information and make visible our heritage, culture and communities. Is very hard find colombians working with people and attending to this events for language reasons and that Sahaquiel9102 can do this, give us a change to improve us as national team. Sahaquiel9102 is a very active member of Wikimedia Colombia.

-The development of native languages wikiprojects is a very important part of the work of our user groups. Sahaquiel9102 has been work in this area and as result we now have two languages in the Incubator (And we hope that somewhere in the future they could become Wikipedias). So for us, it is really important that Sahaquiel9102 participate of this conference. -- Remux - Nunca Olvidaré, que me enamoré de la más hermosa flor.
