Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Women's August meeting is an annual congress of married women in South East Nigeria. Women use the meetings to conceptualize and activate development plans that compliment the government projects in their different communities. The meeting has become an integral part of the culture in South East, Nigeria. Pictures of the activities that take place in meetings and the women who drive and participate in these meetings are not in the public domain. This project seeks to capture the activities of Women August meeting in 2 towns each of the 3 senatorial zones of Anambra State. A photo walk will be undertaken in the chosen towns during the 2023 Women August meeting. A physical training will be held for uploading the pictures.

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

A virtual training on licenses and permissions will be done before the Photo Walk. A physical meetup/training will then place place for uploading the pictures.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

First, members of the Wikimedia Anambra Network were informed in the WhatsApp group of this proposal to know if they will be interested as that is the catchment area for volunteers that we will work with. The response has been very encouraging. This was intentional as the project requires wikimedians who will be physically present in Anambra State to do the picture capturing.

Second, the project if approved, will also be announced in the larger Wikimedia User Group Nigeria platform, and social media platforms as well as shared through the mailing list of African Wikimedians - african-wikimedians@lists.wikimedia.org

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

E-fliers will be shared in the WhatsApp group of Anambra Wikimedia Network, and the larger Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. A community notification will also be put up at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria#Community_Notification_of_my_project_proposal

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:Kaizenify

I will do the virtual training on licenses and permissions for taking and uploading pictures on Wikimedia Commons. I will also run the physical training on Commons with the Leaders of the Photo Walk. User:Goodymeraj User:PassionateLibrarian User:Adakaibe will lead the photowalk for Anambra Senatorial zone User:Obuezie and User:Ngostary are seasoned Wikimedians who will lead the photowalk in Anambra North Senatorial Zone User:AfricanLibrarian User:Ngoudechi

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The participants have devices that they can use. However, they will be taught skills and comportment in photo capturing at Women August Meeting.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will continue discussions on the project in the WhatsApp group and other available fora. W 7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The grant request is in the context of adding images that will be taken by volunteers and which will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. The pictures are also meant to be resources that will be available to be used on Wikipedia and sister projects to enrich articles and knowledge generally about Nigerian women and development projects. We also foresee that the project will make more women professionals in the South East to be aware of Wikimedia User Group, Nigeria.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events: A virtual training, Photowalk in 6 towns within 3 senatorial zones of Anambra State, and an online meet-up/training for uploading pictures.
  2. Number of participants: 25

  • Support Support August meeting is the congress of Christian women from all walks of life in the month of August. It is a time when these mothers unite to make decisions often geared towards self-helping in rural community development, conflict management, peace-building and human development in rural societies among others. This is a hot and interesting topic seasoned with our culture, tradition and can amplify the hidden rudiments of the assemblage called, "August meeting" in still pictures. I'm happy with the project idea and hereby add my endorsement.Obuezie (talk) 22:16, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Strong support Strong support it's a simple fact that picturs tell more stories than words and Wpwp is one of the best You can't talk of ways to showcase our rich cultural heritage and not mention the August Meeting. Though it's a gathering of Christian Women in our different communities, it has cultural backup, and most importantly aimed at helping in rural development by the women. It needs all the publicity and exposures it can get, more importantly through still pictures. I am so much happy with the project idea And therefore add my endorsement
